Way over rated by who?

Mainstream anywhooooos? Pfffff

Im open to your comment VS wordplay post 90s but back it up with better vids than you posted about 3 average birds "doin thar thang", so average its tedious, but like I said if you like it, all good.

Leaving them aside, what has technical skill got to do with rapping?
Can you spit a lyric then back it up with a bass, drum, piano, kick and teachnical skill as a Lyricist?

Yes? Then you fall under Tupac.
No? Then you are a 2bit as you have posted. Tedious and cliched crap imho.

But look, this could go on allllllll night =/

Gonna have to leave it here since its dead late but do you know what the worst thing about the toons you posted Amaya as "cool girl rap"?

They sound the same as every other generic gak I've heard in the last 20 years, boom write a beat, boom, slap a crap lyric over it, boom, blast that kick drum over
it, boom, .......I'M BORED HO HUM

That kinda rhymed, NN.

Tupac is overrated by so called hip hop heads. Google top 10 MCs of all time or GOAT rapper and he'll be top 5 even though he has no business being there despite being much better than Biggie. All of Run-DMC and NWA is overrated cause they're old school and these arrogant bastards automatically place old school over new school.

Even against other old school rappers, I'd still take Nas, Rakim, Q-Tip, and Busta Rhymes over Pac. Now you got guys like Mos Def, Common, Talib Kweli, Chali 2na, Eminem, Edan, Canibus, Black Thought, etc running around, Pac doesn't even compare and Eazy E can't even match up with Pac. Pac's a legend because he helped to start a style not because he was the greatest ever at it.

To maximize your skill at rapping you need to have an extensive knowledge of the English language be it slang or formal and these old school guys simply do not have that.
In addition to that, rap isn't simply a ":ghetto" or "black" style of music. At it's essence it is rhythmic poetry over a beat.

But yes, I would take Lauryn Hill over Eazy E or Tupac.

Nas, Qtip vs OS?

Ooooook, I 'm not sure how I can "win" this debate.

We'll have to agree to disagree over your POV despite your comments above.

I am drunk and very confused. Are you denying that Rakim, Nas, Q Tip, and Krs One are better than any other pre 95 rapper?

Or, they really just don't like rap. It's entirely possible you know. As for the videos posted... no thank you. I'm not BIG of rap, but a few songs here and there are ok. Wasn't a fan of any you posted; got through the intro on the first one just to hear the actual rapping, the others lasted even less than that.

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

The punk, heavy metal, and other music threads seem to just chug along where if someone brings up rap people come out of the woodwork just to say how much they dislike it.

And I think we all know the Beastie Boys are the greatest rappers of all time.

Or that those that don't like rap have little self control. Could go either way. I didn't go into the death metal thread just to say that I don't care for death metal.

Now if someone makes a country music thread it's on, of course.

Rap sucks. The music is manufactured, as are most of the the artists. Many of them never had the downtrodden lives they claim to have had, and if they did, they become victims of their past funded by the money of their present.

For the first argument, take it as a response to this probably not being too rap-friendly here...

And as for the second statement, the Beastie Boys were a great rap group. They made their own image and their own music. This was before Surge Knight decided to make a despicable underclass of society something to be admired. For that matter, anyone know who the Sugarhill Gang was?

So just called the three indie artists I posted manufactured? They also claim to live downtrodden lives? K. Flay doesn't claim that and that is true for Invincible, but she doesn't claim to be a gang banger, she just raps about hardships growing up in Detroit.

Your comment in bold is extremely ignorant and is a prime example of why people should shut up about things they know nothing about. We're not talking about 50 Cent, or manufactured gangsta/pimp crap.

Everyone who knows anything about rap knows Sugarhill Gang and Rapper's Delight.

Are you really going to sit there and tell me that all of the following are manufactured thugs for live that rap about made up criminal careers?

Rakim
A Tribe Called Quest
Naughty By Nature
Pete Rock & CL Smooth
Common
The Roots
Mos Def
Talib Kweli
Jurassic 5
MF Doom
Del tha Funkee Homosapien
The Fugees, esp Lauryn Hill
J. Electronica
KRS 1
Murs
Zion I

You probably haven't heard of even half of those artists and you've probably listened to none of them.

You should though, when people ask your opinion of something, are you unallowed to give a disfavorable opinion?

Rap sucks. The music is manufactured, as are most of the the artists.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but ALL music is manufactured now a days, if it ever wasn't. Hell, the Prince of Darkness himself is nothing more than a sell out these days.

Funny, I don't see how "rap sucks" relates to are female rappers producing higher quality songs than their male counterparts right now.

Female Rappers | "Rap Sucks"
Rappers | "Rap"
Rap | Rap

If you do not like Rap, chances are neither are going to be preferable. If your on the fence (like me, there are some songs I like, but not a lot), then you may possibly be swayed. And no, those three songs are not higher quality (in my humble opinion) than their male counterparts.

Those are just a handful of good rap songs by male artists. K. Flay's recent stuff is better than all that.

Now, if we're talking all time, the best stuff from male artists is still at the top. Even Eminem's best work such as "Sing For the Moment" and "Lose Yourself" is much better than anything a female artist has produced with the possible exception of Lauryn Hill on The Score and Miseducation.

I'm just saying that over the past two years female artists are producing better original material. If Deltron Event II is a good as Deltron 3030 that'll change though.
