Subject: Female rappers are better than their male counterparts???
I have been to a few more indy/underground rap shows in LA, Sacramento and Seattle and I just do not like the scene. I like music for its live scene in all honesty.

But that is the enjoyment! I go to punk shows to get drunk and smash around with people bigger than me. Also being a pastey white guy in a LA rap club was kind of scary even though I was there with like 6 other pastey white guys

The first one is actually quite good, I haven't got to the other ones yet.
The second is technically way better than the first, the rap is much tighter and the lyrics are actually quite witty but overall I didn't enjoy the song as much as the first.
The third has a nice beat but otherwise it's a bit naff.

I wouldn't say good. Her lyrical skills are mediocre. Her strength is her charisma and ability to switch personalities instantly. She's entertaining and occasionally enjoyable to listen to, but hardly a talented rapper.
Not a fan of rap. There are a few songs I do enjoy, and have on my ipod but in general I do not like it.
Either I don't like the pace of the lyrics (they sound like auctioneers to me), Don't like the fact I can only understand a few words out of the song. And just Good old fashion personal tastes. The whole "you just hear the main stream crap" is about as appealing as listening to a hipster trying to get me to listen to their music.
I'm mostly a Jazz and Blues kind of guy. And love more than my fair share of rock and metal. Mostly 70s. Love me some Tool and APC.

When I said good I was not referring to her skill or talent, but whether or not her presence adds or detracts from the song. I think in that instance it worked out fairly well.

I have listened to them...and it is true that they are better than what is currently out there. Still not my taste, but bearable and does show at least some amount of talent.. However, the title is asking if female rappers are better than their male counterparts. I do not see any videos with male rappers up there who are also better than the current market. If you want a good response, you should post some male rappers.
Anyway, on topic...I still prefer Busta Rhymes

I'm both selfish and rational. I'm scheming, secretive and manipulative; I use knowledge as a tool for personal gain, and in turn obtaining more knowledge. At best, I am mysterious and stealthy; at worst, I am distrustful and opportunistic.

Old school Busta Rhymes (pre 2001) was awesome. This new muscle bound Busta is whack.
In all honesty, the male rappers I respect haven't been doing much.
Del hasn't done anything solid since Deltron 3030 back in 2000.
MosDef peaked a long time ago, even though Ecstatic was a great album.
The Roots are consistent, but not extraordinary since The Tipping Point.
Common sold out.
MF Doom is inconsistent.
Canibus never lived up to his potential.
Chali 2na had a decent debut album, but it's not on par with K. Flay or Invincible's last EP.
ATCQ has been dead for a while and Q-Tip has been drifting lyrically.
Hopsin is nothing more than a diss rapper, even though he's awesome at that.
Zion I is okay, but not as lyrically complex as K. Flay or Invincible.
Talib Kweli has always been, in my eye, the weaker half of the Backstar duo.
J. Cole looked like he was going to be hot, but he's a sell out.
J. Electronica dropped a couple HOT tracks and nothing else.
The problem with a lot of male rappers is that they all try to rap like they're on some hardcore street gak. It gets old quick. There aren't many male rappers that just go out and make good songs. They're always dissing or trying to one up each other or making gangsta crap. Even in the underground/alt scene you have guys trying to act like they're brangers.
The women I linked don't do that. They just rap. They make songs, no bs, just music. Rap at its purest form, the way it was back in the day.
Edit: And JMT is pretty much the go to "look I listen to underground stuff" group. Wildly overrated on the internet by so called hip hop heads. They're decent.

I liked Fat Boys better than Wee Papa Girl Rappers. Kris Kross better than Salt & Peppa.
I don't think you're going to get anyone to agree that A, B, and C are the best, especially in something as esoteric as music tastes. The commercial success of the current crop of rappers is pretty good evidence that people consider them pretty darn good.

Is the Wu-Tang Clan considered "watered-down"?
Not trolling, seriously asking. Like is it something that normal people have a taste for? Because seriously, Wu-Tang clan and other underground stuff is my entire childhood, and I have a permanent love for anything from like 91-98.
Can't stand anything that's from this century, really. It all sounds like european discotech gak or something.

Oh man, all those things bring back some awesome memories.
I'm still of the opinion that white people should stay away from hip hop, or at least, not try to emulate in any way. Keep it private, and don't let that part of you ever show, lol

Uhm are you talking about contemporary modern rap or anything thats been?
To each their own with music choices, I'll never argue with what someone feels is their type of music, but I'll profer these as pure Rappers and beats (and these are the "cliched" ones ) to those female artists you have posted.
I think a thread like this is pretty counter productive as all music and tastes have a viewpoint but , its late, Im toast and you hit a nerve with Rap
Poor sound quality so need to put up the Subwoof a bit on this one. Live, raw and no "production" behind it. Backing vocals are unreal and the kick drum just carries it all away.

2Pac and Easy E are way overrated. I don't care if you prefer them, but it is undeniable that the lyrical aspect of rap has vastly improved since the 90s. There is a greater emphasis on wordplay (at least in the underground) now than there ever was during the 90s. No disrespect to the pioneers, but there are dozens of rappers now that would destroy legends in terms of technical skill.
