The first painting attempt. I'm not really shure about how the flesh color turned out, but I'm quite satisfied with the green rotten areas.

finally, some several weeks after moving together with my girlfreind to another city and some painted orcs, I found some time to paint something new for my chaos army!

The eye turned out perfect, how did you do it?

THX, I was surprised myself when it was done

I think I started with Regal blue and washed it with asurmen blue. Then I used 2-3 layers of enchanted blue mixed with ice blue. finally chaos black and skull white for the iris and some 'ardcoat for the shiny effect. IMHO that's what really makes it cool looking. Even the smaller eyes look cool with ardcoat on.

That lord is awesome.

One thing I would say about the Hellbrute is that the yellpw freehand Chaos star needs work. Try using a bit of black to paint it as though it's flaking away, and give it a black wash. At present it looks too bright and pristine.

Yeah, that lord is mad dope. Excellent work. I especially enjoy the highlighting on the lightning claws.

The Hellbrute looks pretty boss too. Always be willing to try new painting techniques; that's the sign of a good painter (if not now, you will be eventually! I think you are one now but you know what I mean!

)

Squigsquasher: the flaking effect is acool idea. I used nuln oil previously in order to blend my grey highlightet areas, but that didn't work out well

so I painted the star to avoid highlighting the flat area. I have to figure out how to (wet)blend properly

that brings me to FoxPhoenix135: there's still a lot techniques out there for me to learn

I just want to say that you have improved leaps and bounds in your painting from the first page to the second. Can't wait to see what its like on page 5 or 6

I'm not worthy

When I started my first minis for this army, I haven't been painting for several years, so I totally missed washes etc. A friend of mine who paints and airbrushes to an excellent degree got me back into the whole thing, and he pushes me always to get better and better. The new paint range also helped me a lot. the only issue I have is the fact that's its nearly impossible to get paints by other manufacturers in my area. So I stick to the GW paints, because I can try them out at the store. Don't want to waste money on the internet with colors I cannot try before use.

My first attempt of painting a nurgle cultist. I'm not really satisfied with how the green tinted flesh turned out. Anyone got an idea for this? My next guess would be to try out waywatcher green, but I haven't worked with the glazes yet.

The skin tone is excellent. It manages to look ugly and dead, while still looking like skin.

It's going in the right direction, but on the actual mini it's not as smooth as I wanted it to be.

@ Riffgott - As a BL guy how do you feel about the new stuff?

I'm really excited about the new apostles and the warpsmith! The beasts look quite interesting, too. I hope I can convert my Iron Warrior Warsmith in a decent way to match the rules.

But I noticed that there are "upgrade packs" available for Thousand Sons and Emperor's children... this seems to make a squad much more expensive as you now have to buy a normal squad of CSM's and the upgrade packs! They also took the old boxes down on the GW page

The new Forge World stuff looks great, too.

Yesterday I finished my 2nd Cultist and I'm quite happy with how he turned out. On the pictures he's a bit glossy, but that's not the case on the actual model. I used waywatcher green for the taint on the skin, the Nurgle dots were made from GS, in order to match the effect nowadays used on banners cloaks and capes. I hope I get the other models painted in much less time now my main issues are settled.

I tried a few different approaches, but in the end the Waywatcher glaze created just the effect I was going for. The pale skin was build up with dwarf flesh, reikland flesh shade and some highlighting with bronzed flesh.

My CC cultists will be Khorne style (surprise surprise), so I'll try a reddish skin tone with ratskin flesh and cadian flesh tone as the base color, then glazing with bloodletter.

The first cultists of the Khornate squad. The skin was glazed with bloodletter. Lost some highlights though, but it's ok for gaming purposes. I'm going for the look of hot-blooded gangers charging into hand-to-hand fighting

Perhaps I'll add some tattoos to the skin and some writing onto the clothes.

THX Squigsquasher! I was surprised that it actually worked that good. Ratskin flesh, Reikland flesh shade and cadian flesh tone were the basic skin colors. then just the glaze.
I'm also very happy that the two squads have such distinct tones on the skin.

Edit: BTW if you like old stuff, check out my colors! some of these are from the early 90's and STILL FLUID! the really old cylindrical ones even had 20 ml, the hexagonal ones 17,5 ml. those were glorious days... (in the background you can see the next mini i'm going to finish, an old champion with a somehow over-sized powerfist!)

This picture brought me back to the 'good old days' of painting Blood Bowl minis early 90's
