The only "conversion" is the mark on his shoulder pad. As he's Black Legion, I don't want him to be bloated like a plague marine. He's just one of the many fools who think they might be able to control the ruinous powers without succumbing to them entirely

For the axe, how about painting it black and highlighting the edges with a really bright, sickly yellow, to make it look like it has been imbued with unholy power. Then gloss it for extra ick.

I swapped 8 of these for 8 normal CSM's a my local store. Unfortunately, they were already assembled, so some of them will be hard to paint. Where it is possible, I'm exchanging the right shoulder pads with the extra Black Legion ones, to add even more affiliation.

I like your approach, too, but for me it would be too hard to get hold of so many Champion heads

Two Angry Marines. Basic paintjob, because they will be a birthday gift for the 6 year old son of my friend. I got these poor fellas for free many years ago and they were drenched in glue, white primer and thick layers of blue and red. Really gave me a hard time with the stripping process. Finally they will come to some use
I hope I'll have the time to paint the enemies, too...

I can't put my finger on why, but when I painted my orks from the AOBR kit I really enjoyed painting them. They came out well, I bet yours will too.

After more than two years without any WH40k besides the occasional game of Dawn of War, I finally started painting again!

At the moment I'm working on a warsmith standing on the rusty tiles of a bastion wall. Not shure how I'll use him, though. Maybe as a Warpsmith count-as or I'll start a small host of Iron warriors who have pledged allegiance to the Black Legion... Either way, the damn chevrons give me a headache! And I'm still figuring out how to take decent pics with an iphone, since my digicam is no more

Raptor Champion is done, also a slightly updated version of my Jump Pack Lord, now featuring a Mark of Khorne on his chest and some more skulls on his base.

Some "Oldhammer" 2nd Ed. CSM's

My first Plague Marine from the Oldhammer plastic box. I Decided to convert him to create a Plague Champion with power fist. The spikes on his shoulder guard were taken from 2nd Ed. starter set Space Orks.
