I stopped paying attention to the genre at large ages ago (but then most Japanese media has a very imitative and repetitive problem). The only one I still follow is Naruto and that's just because its the only series that's managed to hold my interest.
Want DBZ 2.0? Check out Bleach. It takes Tito Kubo FOREVER to get anywhere
EDIT: And don't get me started on One Piece. Interesting work, but trying to read it is like trying to read while having a seizure.
Are you saying that DBZ is full of useless filler and talking eps and doesn't ever get anything done? Thats all I took away from Bleach Naaa never happen.
Watched DBZ on tv when I was younger, loved it, hated the filler ( I mean honestly how many eps is Goku running down that snake road??!!) But on the bright side it did spawn one of the best meme's of all time... =o]
You know when you can Troll Oprah you are doing something right.
That episode just shows how crazy they got with their power levels. In that one, over 9k is like LOLWTFUTROLLIN high. Where as in the Frieza saga they got over a millionish right? Good grief
That was one problem with the show, they made a huge deal about someone's power level being over 9000, but then every big major baddie after that had to be stronger than the previous, so there were more people with a power level over 9000 than people without.
If you ever get a chance, pick up the game Dragon Ball Z: Sagas - IIRC every boss after Frieza just has a power level of ????? because it's gotten too high to tell.

Kal'reia Sept Tau - Farsight Sympathizers Da Great Looted Waaagh! The Court of the Wolf Lords
I liked the abbridged/censored version, mainly because it actually means that the show actually moved along.
I loved the original, but sometimes it was just frustrating that you would start on Monday, and by the end of Fridays episode the story has only moved ahead 5 minutes.
How long can you draw out one guy yelling and trying to focus energy....
He was one of my favorites as well. One of my all-time favorite moments in the series was when he showed up from the future and absolutely pimp-slapped the rebuilt Frieza. A villain that literally had an entire Saga centered around him, and someone who blew an entire planet to pieces...and Trunks beat him without even trying.
It's funny how nostalgia works. I remember watching every single DBZ episode as it aired as a kid because I loved the show, but going back, it's amazing how little goes on in each episode. I mean, there are so many times where it's just one character powering up for a solid couple of episodes at a time, or trying to reach point B from point A. Just looking at the episode titles for Dragonball Z, episode 22 has "Goku Where Are You" in the title. Episode 28's title is "Goku's Arrival." All I'm saying is, it took like 6 episodes of fighting for the hero to show his face.
Yeah it did get very slow in between major sagas when they were thinking up what to do. Oh and the part where Future Trunks sliced Mecha Frieza in half was one of my favorites too. The weirdest episodes in my opinion were the older ones that focused on the Red Ribbon Army. Like the very racist-ly thought out stereotypical Black Security Guard who was called Security Officer Black

Yeah, but at that point Frieza was pretty much a living god.
Until Goku just managed to beat him, and later Trunks just smacked him around like a mouthy beeyatch.

Yea, the originals can drag out pretty fething long. I always wondered, "Why the hell dont you attack? The guys just been standing around screaming for 40 minutes show time, why not just launch a fething blast into his gut?"
