Nids are one of the hardest opponents to verse IMHO. Can you tell us what kind of nids he had?

Lots 'o big bugs. the third time I let him use his 4th edition codex,
He had two Carnifexes, a ninjafex, two hive tyrants, and forty Termagants

I think that sternguard and plasma weaponry are the best way to deal with the huge nids. That and snipers.

Yep. The only times Iv'e seen snipers go well against nids is when I was doing a 2v2 and my friend had ratling snipers. They took down 2 and a half carnifex's (he was fairly lucky though).

That's my problem, the dice hate me...

I have horrible luck as well. My solution is roll them a ton of times before a game to get all of the bad luck out of them or pray to the dice gods for mercy. Either way, hope the dice roll well. When making an army list, I always assume my dice will roll slightly below average.

Tonight I played against Gray knights, I made him play 500, we played one capture point per person. It was a tie.

What kind of grey knights did you verse, because I can imagine the usual Draigo wing wouldn't have worked in that points limit.

Against nids I would go missile launcher or plasma, though I would find a way to switch weapons around.

I would say unless your versing 2+ armour, then the missile launchers are all you need (unless your trying to stick with the number of weapons in the devastator kits). If you are versing really good armor, then plasma cannon.
