Except now they arnt MAKING it an MMO, so whats the directions left to go when you had a nearly finished MMO? I dunno.....maybe an open ended RPG?

I don't trust any MMO to not be a WoW clone unless it explicitly proves otherwise.

I really hold no stock in the ability for this game to be rehashed into a good singleplayer game. I imagine it to be a clusterfeth of stupidity if they don't take their time.

I doubt it'll be a good game... some little niggle says it won't. But now that it won't be an MMO it will probably become an RPG of sorts. Probably something like Skyrim; should it be completed properly, it'll be awesome. Also if they want multiplayer, some form of online co-op ala Journey would be neat

I am cynical that it will be a good game. I also doubt I will be able to play as a Dark Eldar.

That's assuming you'll only ever play through it once.

That's rather sad. You're skipping through a lot of replay value by ignoring all the options you didn't choose to make.

I wouldn't have bought it as an MMO or multiplayer.

I'd rather not spend $50+ on a game then have to pay $15 every month to keep playing it.

What if it was a GW2 style MMO? 60 dollar purchase then free to play, but it offers a special currency which can be obtained through real money (or converted from in-game money at a low rate of exchange)?

They're working on it.

It'll probably have some day one DLC though, because it's been found that day one DLC is more profitable than DLC released one month after.

I hope they have a somewhat class based system, Imperial Officer, Commisar, Inquisitor or such.

.......Speaking of which, is Warlord Titan Princeps out of consideration ?

"The Imperium is nothing if not willing to go to any lengths necessary. So the Trekkies are zipping around at warp speed taking small chucks out of an nigh-on infinite amount of ships, with the Imperium being unable to strike back. feth it, says central command, and detonates every vortex warhead in the fleet, plunging the entire sector into the Warp. It was originally going to be an online RPG. DOes that mean we might actually get a Warhammer 40,000 RPG? I'm actually quite excited.

I hope multiplayer is like SW Battlefront 2.

Yea me too, though Im trying to think what we will get, I mean setting a game up for MMO style is pretty different from normal video games.

If anyone is wondering, DMO is being made by the same company that is making Darksiders II. What's been released of this game is an obvious indication that they were actually test piloting some aspects of the RPG for what was to be their MMO. It will be interesting to say the least what DMO will look like now that it's no longer an MMO, it has the Darksider's engine and two somewhat similar games already released. I think it will be a great game worth our future attention considering they have a stronger base than Space Marine did since Relic had to switch from being an RTS developer to a TPS (and borrow the Darksiders Engine if I'm not mistaken).

This really didn't surprise me, THQ picked a company with only one really good game to its name. I'm not sure if THQ has any MMOs under its belt, they are much different animals than single or multi player games (16-32 players in one map).

Piercing the heavens

Although scaling back Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online into something which doesn't require a subscription to play sounds more appealing to me than the alternative, the fact that this process even had to happen is worrisome. For me, much of that concern has to do with the unanswered questions surrounding the project.

Speaking to RipTen, THQ's Danny Bilson shed some light on the situation with his usual level of enthusiasm. "You've gotta remember there's five years of development and careful thinking and testing and prototyping and then building involved there," he says of Dark Millennium Online. "At its core, the mechanics are very action based."

"At the end of the day, and I know for myself in particular, I much prefer the route we're going down than having brought in investors, and possibly diluted some of the controls around it. When you bring in more opinions, things will change. That game is still sitting with the people who invented it five years ago, and honestly, they are incredibly excited about the new direction."

Bilson then mentions the one thing I was hoping he'd say: "If you liked Space Marine, you're gonna love this thing. It's much deeper. Space Marine was designed as a console experience. This one has tremendous multiplayer gameplay, and there is a lot going on in this game that's spectacular."

Desctructoid

Somehow I have my doubts that they can pull off the AAA action game feeling Space Marine had.

I think we'll have to just wait and see. If the multiplayer in DMO is expansive like it was supposed to be, this game might be something to keep our eyes peeled for. I just hope they release more information about it at e3.

That sounds like a good reason to me-- they didn't want to force the devs to dilute their creative vision too much, so they changed it from an MMO to an action rpg.

The investors would probably have made them make another boring WoW clone.

If what they are saying is truthful, then I agree, Mel.

It sounds like if they would have continued with the MMO, it would have been ruined by factors outside the development team a la WAR.
