The thread, yes. But point I made, and to which you specifically responded with a question, was about the flawed logic that "age" is an indicator for anything. If it were, GW would drop the WS/S/T stats and replace it with an "age" stat.

I'm going to stop now. You're just arguing your point over and over. The subject is on Dante and Calgar. Not any other character, OK?

I'd go with Calgar here as well.

Both Dante and Calgar are beeftanks, and both of them are exceptional chapter masters, being very, very good with warfare.

The problem for Dante, though, is that this is where he stops. His only other defining feature is that he's old, but so what? Meanwhile Calgar is also the lord of a half-dozen worlds, showing his ability as a statesman. He also quasi-controls hundreds of other sub-chapters, showing his skills in diplomacy. That everything he touches seems to prosper, both in peace and war shows his incredible organizational talents and skills in logistics.

Calgar and Dante are both men of war, but Calgar, much more than Dante, is also a capable man of peace.

Well if your gonna go on that premise then Dante wins again cause he's prettier.... really are we going with the who can whip the others "ars" in a diplomatic conversation....or are we talking about strict martial competition....I would still have to go with Dante on the sheer stance of stats vs. stat on the fluff(cause Calgar is Wards baby along with every other ultramarine) aspect plus strict combat prowess.

And the fact that Calgar bowed down to Dante and let him control the campaign for Armageddon seems to point to Dante being better.

It's the tradition of Space Marines from different chains of command to yield to those of the same rank but longer time at that rank. It's how they've informally decided to work things such that every coordinated effort doesn't devolve into "No, I'm in charge!"

Also, seriously with the Matt Ward hate in this thread? He wrote both current codecies. You people just have to jam your pet-hates into everything.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Meh. Let's put that discussion behind us. It had nothing to do with the thread.

Calgar is the hardest working man in show biz. Not to mention a powerfist could ruin Dante's day... too bad Clagar brought two.

Actually, Dante doesn't even have to be in combat to die horribly. AP 2 Boltguns and Orbital Bombardment.

Talking fluffwise, Dante. Why?

Calgar uses regular Orbital Bombardment.

Dante uses Orbital Bombardment of LAND RAIDERS.

Dante's ship has red paint to go fasta. It will shoot Calgar's ship faster and get out Faster.

Dante, fluffwise, also could use Orbital Bombardment. So that is invalid.

I have to go with Dante on this, I think he'll have the speed in the figth, Calgar may have the power but Dante is quicker.

If we're talking all out war... Calgar, no contest.
If we're talking company on company, Dante

In Game: Calgar... in fluff, hand to hand... I dunno. Terminator with dual PF just needs to surive long enough to hit, but I think Dante might get this one.

Hey, wait a minute! When and where did the Ultramarines suddenly become legion strength? And 500 worlds? The Realm of Ultramar only covers 7 systems. And the game stats are biased for the Ultramarines. Dante and the Blood Angels deserve as much credit and special mention as they do, if not more so.

I think Lobukia means sucessors (e.g. novamarines, sons of orpeus, mentors) and the worlds Ultramarines and Sucessors control / have liberated and pay homage to Calgar as their lieg lord
