HORRIBLE example. Nobody's buying Tau NOW.
Their sales would probably INCREASE, with people wanting to have certain "guaranteed" units ready to go (Fire Warriors, Battlesuits, etc) when the new Dex dropped.

I'm not saying it's right, but i think GW would rather have your money immediately then take the chance you don't buy anything down the line because you aren't in the hobby in a couple of months or don't like the facelift.
Well, they're perfectly sensible to go down the route that would make them more money! However, the silence over upcoming stuff is not necessarily going to work out that way for them. I don't think people would be put off starting 40K by a new codex, especially if they're new to the game. New codices and models tend to increase sales of an army dramatically, after all. The route I would go down, in their situation, would be publicising what was coming and then offering discounts on the soon to be discountinued stuff to clear it out.
That's not the way GW want to do it, and that's their call. I do wish I could see what was coming though.
I guess the ultimate result of their behavior is that there are threads upon threads of speculation.....which is probably what they want

Also, I think GW pulled all of their mall stores out..there are still a few left, but I know that all of the mall stores in So Cal have been replaced by 1 man operations in strip malls.
I think as far as recruitment goes, it should be their #1 concern...people just leave the hobby due to finances, getting married, new interests...ect. W/O new hobbyists and active recruiting, the hobby would eventually die, like D&D did.
The only thing with that is is that higher ups are still expecting the same level of recruitment from areas with less foot traffic and less passing kids, sadly to say the mall "daycare" centers were great for recruiting kids, but they were too expensive to maintain. The one man stores are destination type shops which you would think would be designed to maintain and grow vets. It was the biggest problem I had with the company while I was working there; one half of the company is constantly in a state of trying figure out what the other half is doing.

I guess the ultimate question about complaining about a companies product in their retail establishment is why are you there if you dislike it so much? now..if you are just saying "them necrons are silly, this doesn't make any sense" that's one thing...but just going "Matt Ward is a turd, I HATE these new releases, Finecast SUCK"....well then, you should get the boot IMO
No no, all I was saying about the necron fluff was that it doesnt match up with some of the existing fluff, Alaitoc craftworld being 60 million years old rather then its current 10,000 ish is a big difference. If I made a huge scene about it then yeah I'd understand but I was talking to other friends that all already bought the book and have standing armies on vet night after I already bought necron models, so it seemed unnecessary to jump in with the ''hey guys if you're going to talk like that do it somewhere else".

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

I believe GW may be leaking multiple false rumors to find the leaks and/or throw people off. Actually developing three boxes at once just to only make one though? That's preposterous. That's very expensive, and a lot of potentially wasted work. Finally, everything's been designed for quite some time now. They aren't still designing 2 months before release.
As for the Simpsons example, they wouldn't waste their time animating false endings to throw people off. Those false endings on who shot Mr. Burns were meant to be used as a joke in the episode where they explain it. Animation is expensive and potentially wasting the efforts of a studio isn't worth it. On top of that, there's also the rest of the episode which would need to be animated as well after the big reveal.

Lol, never, but the internet whinesquads do love their edition wars. (just wait until 6th edition actually drops, you'll be hearing people crying for the halcyon days of 4th and 5th edition when the game was awesome, so much better than it is now)

I must say, Pathfinder does seem quite excellent. Just joined a gaming group for it and already they've driven a daemonic sword into a mental breakdown.

And it is the reason why I stick with no rumour people. Also I realised that the rumours, or lack thereof, had zero impact on my spending habits and enjoyment of the hobby.

It is silly. Although it is worth nothing that WotC suffered quite a large drop in the market share over the course of 4E. They tried something risky, and it didn't pay off the way they had hoped, so they lost a lot of customers to rival companies. So D&D as a brand isn't dead, but it certainly took a blow with this most recent edition war.
Anyway, we're veering right off topic here.
