Ah, an entirely unheard of and untried subsidiary. Yay.
The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

...you should actually do research occasionally...it was formed by the guy who produced DAOC, so it is not unheard of or untried. Regardless, its still probably going to be a generic WoW clone.

Zenmax Online is unheard of. The subsidiary as a group has never worked on any game except this one.
One known employee doesn't mean the team itself-- and creating a game is a team project-- is a known thing . We don't know if it'll be good or bad, but since it's the team's first project it adds extra uncertainty.

The known employees listed on wikipedia all have industry experience. I don't doubt their competency, but I still expect it to be nothing more than a WoW clone.
More screens, including what looks to be a Drider.
Those screenshots dont look like Elder Scrolls to me.

Well it is a completely different art style and none of the TES games have maintained the same art style. It's also set around 500 years before any Elder Scrolls game, so the setting will naturally look different.
MMOs are profitable, but I suspect that the market for them is drying up. SWTOR is allegedly haemorrhaging susbscribers and thats only been out for a few months.
Aside from a handful of games such as EvE the majority of MMOs follow the exact same format and mechanics; people are simply becoming jaded. The last two 'new' games that I tried, Rift and SWTOR, failed to hold my attention even for an afternoon and I really can't be bothered even trying any other traditional MMOs.

Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

All aboard the failboat! I generally like MMOs but from what I've read, this game isn't going to have anything going for it other than 3 faction PvP. Other than that, they've even *said* it's going to be a lot like WoW, and all I can say is goddammit, enough with the fething WoW clones! Someone do something different! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
As it stands the only MMOs I'm really looking forward to are The Secret World, Mechwarrior Online and Planetside 2.

Mechwarrior online isn't really an MMO, it's a Free to player multiplayer game.
The distinction between the two is pretty blurry.

It's not, by that logic, League of Legends would be an MMO.
All you need to be classed as an MMO is having either a large online consistent world, or huge multiplayer matches. (end of nations has 25v25 RTS battles )

Everyone for himself, pretty much. It's like the discussion whether Mass Effect is a shooter or an RPG - or something in-between.
An MMO is defined chiefly by the "massive" part in front of the multiplayer - meaning you must be able to encounter loads of players all the time, and that the world you play on must be persistent. However, what "loads" means differs between the individual gamers. I'd say that for me, 50-100 is the minimum to achieve the aforementioned symptom.
I don't see why MMOs seem to have garnered such a negative reputation these days. Isn't being able to play together with other people a good thing that makes for a more diverse experience? And isn't the existence of a persistent world where they can meet at any time even better?
Certainly, there are different ways to work from these two basic traits, but everything else is very much dependent on the individual title and should not taint the genre as a whole.
That's not to say that I'm personally looking forward to this one; I'm not into the setting, and I'm still busy with the immersive stories in TOR. Still, I think people who liked TES should at least wait and see instead of being prejudiced. There's no reason for prematurely getting your hopes up, for sure, but also no reason for badmouthing it before you have all the details.
