The purpose of a GW store having tables is to showcase the game being played. Newbies will walk into the store, see the game, want to play it, and try to buy it.
If they can't buy the game, they will be disappointed, and GW won't get money.
The tables are not there just for you to play on: like the entire store model, they are advertising, and you playing the games in store is more advertising.

Thus GW stores have every right to favour games played with the current rule set and current models. Each different manager will have different ways of enforcing this if at all, but if he believes his store will make more money with you not playing the game, then it is his store.

Has anyone ever been told they can't play with old models? My Eldar army is mostly 2nd ed. stuff now I'm curious to bring it in.
