It really depends on the tournament. That being said - if your conversions are cool enough its going to help your case drastically.

Probably not too much help here but I would think if its on the correct sized base and you tell your ooponent what they represent I would not think there would be a problem. If anyone says anything about then they are the ones with the problem and you should advise them to go out and get a life because seriously who the F cares what the piece of plastic looks like as long as the rules are used correctly for it.
Tournaments are probably a different animal though so i apologize.

Hes talking about tournaments...i dont think anyone so far has objected to someone bringing anything to a friendly match. Personally, one of these days im going to run my necrons as nurgle daemons at my flgs just for kicks. Will anyone care? No.

On the other hand, if i desire to enter a tournament, and they force me to purchase certain things for what i consider my army, im not going to be happy when Joe Shmoe gets away with calling his daughters barbies vendettas, his 1 liter diet coke bottles dreadnoughts, or his 2 dozen empty elmers glue bottles terminators.

@njpc: No, I am not doing this to "save a buck". It is for the model perspective. I absolutely hate the plaguebearer models. It has nothing to do with cost, just personal like/dislike.
