Despite me quite liking Chelsea (first non-Norwich team I saw, not at Carrow Road, if that makes sense And my Grandad used to follow/support them when he lived in London) I wanted Barca to win the semi-final (which was really boring, because Chelsea just defended with the whole team, makes a rubbish game) But I was fully behind Chelsea last night, happy they won.

Again, negative tactics, but its the only way they can beat sides like Barca and Bayern. They were a bit more open last night I thought, after the first half hour anyway.

A German team played an English team, who won? A Russian!

Club play in Europe is pretty weird in how we identify with teams from "our" countries even though owners and players are often quite international.

If a club can afford a £50m on torres, £23.5m on mata, £21m on luiz, £20m on ramieres, and £18m on lukaku, they should really be able to go toe to toe with any team in the world, Arsenal have never paid more than £15m for player (and the last couple haven't been world beaters. I'm looking at you Arshavin and Reyes), but will still try and out football anyone, rather than anti football them, that's the sort of tactic Stoke employ.

And even with Chelsea playing such a defensive game, Bayern had the opportunities to score at least 2-3 more goals during the game that they just did not capitalize on (I'm looking at you Gomez).

It should never have come to penalty kicks.

Chelsea got very lucky last night and against Barca, another time they could have easily lost by 6 or 7 on aggregate over those two legs, based on just the chances Barca had in the two games. And they should have been 2 or 3 down at least. In extra time i'm sure they said Bayern had something like 30+ shots.

And Chelsea should be able to go toe to toe. But they don't have the right players.
Malouda replaced Robben, just think about that. Technically playing Drog, Mata and Torres as a front three, with Mikel, Lampard and Malouda in CM, with Boswinga and Cole as FB would be a pretty good attacking team, but for some reason they want to be defensive and not even try and be too attacking.

Well I was doing the whole 'support the english team' last night, even though I'm not a great fan of Chelski.

John Terry, Cashly Cole and John Obi 'Man Utd bullied me in to signing.. waaah' Mikel all rub me up the wrong way, love to see all three of them failing whenever I can.

But on the flipside, got plenty of time for Lamps and Cech.

No way in the nine hells they should have won, but luck is a factor, and they had it in spades last night.

Wonder what this will mean for Abramovich, reginited passion for the team and game, or, 'well I've done it' and off back to Russia leaving Chelsea with crippling debts?

So basically a Goalie that will never save the English in penalties won the game. Congratz to Mr Czech.

ALL football teams are filled with foreigners! By your logic nobody should support anyone ever?

I know, lets never play football again. We can make one big country for the whole world and just sit and agree with each other all the time.

It might be hard to do the gentlemanly thing, and I'm not even a Chelsea fan, but its a team game, and your sentence reeked of senseless sour grapes.

On a personal level, Ashley Cole rarely fails. He's the best current LB easily, one of the best ever (probably not the best, but not a million miles away).

I believe Chelsea aren't in any real debt, Abramovic has pretty much bank rolled everything himself, spending a hell of a lot of his actual money. Unlike the Man.U owners, who seems to have only spent banks money. If Abramovic leaves, Chelsea won't be in any financial trouble. For a start someone just as rich will have to buy them anyway.

Aye, will be interested to see what happens to Utd with the new rules coming in.

Not sure the American owners can keep doing what they've been doing when we reach the 2015, full rules in place date.

Hard to judge though.

I genuinely laughed out loud at Schweinsteiger crying like a little girl after spanking his penalty into the post. Was nice to see Drogba get the winning kick, too. He played well, and usually performs well in the big games, so all credit to him.

More hilarity from Cole:

Interviewer: "The Germans don't usually lose on penalties, do they, Ashley?

Cole: "They do now." *smirk*

At the end of the day, I'm not even a Chelsea fan, but like many others I'll support any English team against any foreign team. I think it's pretty out of order to say that Chelsea fluked it - they beat probably the best club side in world football to reach the final, and did the job very professionally against Bayern, who had them on the ropes for large parts of the match, despite fluffing almost all of their chances to score. DiMatteo's boys held their nerve and ground out the result, which was pretty the hallmark of Chelsea under Mourinho. Y'know, when they used to win the league?

Who would people say was Man of the Match? I thought Cahill played really well, no major mistakes, drove out of defence occasionally, defended brilliantly. Bodes well for the Euros.

Hard to say, Cahill and the Chelsea defense did have a good game, especially Czech. He made some great saves. Though the bayern offense did flop their chances a bit. Not really sure who I would give it to, either the keeper or Drogba. Hes rather disappointing in season games, but he always does well when it counts. This will prob be his last Champions Final, with Chelsea anyways. God their team is old

Rest assured i found all the words I wanted to use.

I apologize if I gave you the impression I had any intend to take your little fun of this futile hope of englishmen beating anyone in penalties off of you. Can't express how sorry I am, to see the grand nation which has so much love for football in this state, where competition at tournies nearly guarantees an early return to british soil.

Just, a reminder. International events have teams who are formed with a ton of money and barely resemble anything tied to the city they call home. And that was all i said. Please Feel free to consider as much english and worthy of your support as you can.
Just do me a favor and accept this extreme example of '"the dice gods hate us" isn't going to mislead you to think this will happen if teams formed to represent England and Germany met.

Because one bit that is maybe not so well known on your little foggy island is, the FCB pretty much had a unseccessful season and the pressure on them may exactly lead to these wasted chances.

Your first post was needlessly rude, as is this one. Its merely a game of football not a world changing event, why so defensive?

Furthermore, I didnt once say that England are anywhere near as good as Germany at said game anyway! England suck at football, so what?

Why on earth are you being so ridiculously aggressive and needlessly putting down my country?

Well, two can play that game.

Haha, we won the war, suck on it.

Oh and my grandad machine gunned loads of Germans. Im sure they all deserved it.

The big teams of La Liga are still great teams, they shot themselves in the foot by having the Classico between the Champions League semis, both teams looked knackered in the second legs.

Oh come on! Several posts by my mate there involved needlessly throwing childish insults that had nothing to do with football so I tossed one back, its hardly me "enjoying" people being killed is it?

All I did was mention that we won the war.. and you know.. we did.

Fine line between being proud in winning a war, and bragging about grandpa killing Germans.

It's a freaking game, but if bragging about pappy standing behind a machine gun and filling people with bullets makes you feel better, then I guess more power to you. Of course ever since Friday there have been a few "people get killed, good riddance" posts from you so maybe this is just business as usual.

I did, and I quoted it.

His rude and pithy response was "The English suck at soccer".

Your reasonable response was "whatever, my grandpa killed lots of Germans, so take that!"

If you consider that reasonable, then more power to you.

No, I was being childish and rude, in retort to two childish and rude posts. THAT was the point.. nothing at all to do with bragging about the war. I didnt fight in it, what right do I have to brag about it?

But I digress, I wasnt even talking to you, and I dont feel the need to validate my measured response.

Some undoubtedly did, but they were unlikely to be on the front-line. The Milgram experiment from the 50s came to the conclusion that we would all act under similar orders. I personally don't quite believe it, and think there would be different social conditions especially in the 21st century, but that's what they came up with.
