I totally get that, it's a very stupid rule, but as RAW it contradict's itself,

There is no contradiction at all in RAW. There's just reading comprehension problem for some people.

Not hovering in mid-air doesn't say anything at all about removing skimmer from their base. Next paragraph, we have explicit ruling that says you're only allowed to remove base in two cases. See, no contradiction. Only way to get contradiction is to deliberately misinterpret the "not hovering as mid air" as "remove base from skimmer". This interpretation is ludicrous, given the context of next rule.

well ... as for the original topic I picked up a second storm raven today, wanted to pick it up before the price spikes.

I like the idea of taking two... the somewhat annoying thing if the use of heavy support slots which the point of blood angels in the first place was to use my massive amounts of dreds. but I figure as long as I paint them all non standard colors I can do what most marines players do and play around as different chapters when I feel like taking a break from my orks.

I also picked up 2 ork fliers for my main army so my blood angels might not be played for a few weeks while i experiment with suicide ork fliers, but still looking forward to two blender dreds one in each storm raven and then mephiston in one and some assault termies in the other pick your poison and good luck taking them both down

Double SR is fun. I played it for a few months this spring in prep for our Adepticon team lists. Meph is a good choice to save points; combining your HQ and one of your SR assault units. I like las/plas razor squads for scoring. Move them up to midfield to get the plasma (and occasionally a cheeky meltagun) into play. Spending 170pts/unit just for a single lascannon shot and scoring isn't enough; you're playing handicapped if your opponent can focus all his force on your SRs and the units in them.

Biggest weakness of it is going second. You always want to Reserve the SRs against an opponent with even mild shooting, and then you're at the mercy of Reserve rolls. If both show up at once you're golden. If it's one at a time you're very vulnerable.
