They can probably use this to make a nice profit actually.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Its almost as if its some kind of plot by drink makers to make more money by scimpy on portion sizes while scapegoating all the blame onto the politicians.

Ingenious.

When they started offering the gallon-sized sodas at the theater, if they sat there unpurchased, the theaters would have stopped offering them; yes? If everyone saw the 46 ouze soda and thought ew, that's too much, give me the 16oz instead...

edit is my spell-check
They can and do. They air a commercial on TV, spouting the improvements and benefits of "NEW THING". You stop by your local shops, "yes, I'm looking for "NEW THING" where can I find it?" "Sorry, new thing isn't out yet, should be here in 2 weeks." Suddenly sheeple can't live without "NEW THING" and when the fortnight is over, "NEW THING" is the most popular new thing ever.

For the sodas, Coke creates 20oz plastic bottle, actual cost not much more than original 7oz glass bottle. Coke says "it's more convenient", charges twice as much, rakes in profit, eliminates 7oz bottle.

Created need.

Just as we saw with New Coke.

I bet restaurants won't care one bit.

Do you have any idea how little restaurants pay for soda? Any idea at all? Most of you will guess a cost to the restaurant that will be a whole order of magnitude too high.

It comes in at under $.05 for the water, syrup AND CO2. The disposable cups cost more than the soda, at around $.15.

That's right. That $1.79 cup of soda cost the restaurant about twenty cents to make. You'd have to refill 30 times and more to 'get your money's worth'.

Drinks are where restaurants make most of their profit. They tend to break even on everything else.

Working at a restaurant both as a waiter and on the books drinks are the biggest profit (percentage-wise) for the business. Selling a 20 some dollar meal the restaurant makes a few bucks. Selling the customer a 4 or 5 dollar drink, the profit is several hundred percent.

The ban itself is stupid. Admirable, but stupid.

Hope it just stays in the city.

How about this? Every 4-6 months, you go to your insurance company, take a fitness/health test and judging by how you do, your rates go down/up. Sounds fair?

Spoiler:

It doesn't take much to get fitter/not get fatter, just a extra large portion of self control with a side of common sense,* and walking is free, so it doesn't have to cost money.
