This person is bad because he killed people and killing people is bad. So let's kill that person.

Yes, because we all know how capital punishment is such successful determent to crime.

Exactly! I mean not only is crime deterrence a valid reason for taking a human life, all the data supports that it does that job extremely well. The US has more executions than anywhere in the developed world! That's why our violent crime rate is so much lower than everywhere else.

Nothing like some good old righteous human death. Fry those suckers up and put their nuts in some justice stew.

I used to think that the rate of violent crime (and crime in general) in the US was much greater than it is in Sweden, but I've not found any comparable data to back it up. Census.gov lists eight types of crime, whereas the Swedish counterpart, BRĂ…, lists 531 different types of crime, thus making comparison more or less impossible. I realize this might be a tad off-topic, but does anyone know if there's a more thorough source of statistics for the US than census.gov?

I don't care about capital punishment being a determent or not, guys like him just don't deserve to be alive.

And where do you draw the line on who "Deserves to be alive"?

If they kill 5 people, what about 5 kids? 7,8?

Add some water to that slope and you'll have a really good slip'n'slide, so watch out...

If you kill 1 person in anything other than an accident or self defence, you suffer the same fate as the person you killed.

Nice and simple.

Oh damn, turns out it was self defence after all/he wasn't the guy who killed someone.

Oh well he's dead now. Shame that.

So you're fine with executing innocent people?*

Yeah no, this case should set a precedent that if you mass murder and claim responsibility you should definately get the chair.

He wasn't innocent, he was declared guilty of those crimes by whatever legal system was in place in this fictional location.

If at a further date, that legal system was found to be insufficient to accurately declare someone as either guilty or innocent, then we better fix the problem that allowed that mistake to happen! The poor sob that got killed by that mistake should be happy that his sacrifice will help prevent the same thing from happening to someone else. It was very altruistic of him, really!

If norwegians hadn't declaired capital punishment un-Norwegian and removed it from their justice system, we'd be watching his funeral by now

@Phantomviper

You would really accept condemning an innocent person to death as a reasonable cost for identifying a flaw in the system?

I can imagine the hilarious chain of executions now, each executioner being killed in turn for killing the previous one until all the loonies who support this concept were gone.

That's a good point, techinally, unless the axe 'fell on his neck' so to speak, the executioner is a state sponsored hitman. (according to phantoms idea)

If that person was me or someone that I cared about? No.

If that hypothetical person didn't fit into the above category? Absolutely!

You've got to love leftist "morality".

Noting beats wishing death on other people for having a different opinion than theirs while at the same time defending that everyone has the right to live (unless that person disagrees with them, in which case they should die...). Priceless!

Hey, us lefties aren't wishing death on anyone. We're just pointing out that they guy swinging the axe is killing the other dude, so then he needs to be killed and so on and so forth until the only people left are those who support the idea but won't swing the axe themselves and those who don't support the idea at all who therefore aren't going to swing the axe.

So at the end you've got one killer, who ends up with a life sentence due to there being no executioner left to kill him and a court full of people who are against the death penalty and then the world carries on without capital punishment.

1) You cannot win. 2) You cannot break even. 3) You cannot stop playing the game.
