How does someone possibly quantify that much Killy? Is there a point where a unit is putting out so much damage that it doesnt matter how much it costs?
Yelling "feth your MEQs!" should be virtually mandatory when your calguard star gets the charge.

To be honest, I'm actually seeing it as a legitimate strategy. I think we've established that Calgar, honor guard, and a raider, is about 700 points. In this situation, I'd take the crusader. In a 2500 point game, that leaves you with ~1700 points left to build a solid gunline for REDONKULOUS counter charges.

Yes, as I said...
Ailaros wrote:Of course, the problem is, as always, finding 700 points of stuff for them to mash before the game ends. And keeping them away from things that eat marines. 160 points of rough riders, for example, would take this entire death star on the charge...
I think it's a dreadfully silly idea, as it's too fragile for its cost, and it's going to be hard to find enough to kill before time runs out.
Now, if only there were a way to put storm shields in the unit, and have something to make them tougher against the small stuff, like, say, FNP for example...

Meh. That first bit was really more hyperbole than anything; everything in 40k has to be numerable, otherwise the game would cease to function. (Howmany attacks do 25 Genestealers with adrenal glands get on the charge? Eh, a bunch. )
On that second bit, OTT silliness is my craft and trade. I don't care if this Calguard star wins its points back. So long as it can give me lolz, I'm happy.

Relic Blades and Thunder Hammers sound like a waste of points...
You're already getting a Power Weapon with a Bolt Pistol, which means +1 attack. You're forfeiting that and 15 points per model for +2 strength.
Plus Calgar is already putting out 5 (6 w/ Banner) Power Fist attacks, so do you really even need the Thunder Hammer?
5 Honor Guard with rerolls from Cassius and Chapter Banner could probably obliterate damn near anything. Anything else seems superfluous and wasteful.

Sounds like that unit is a crapton of points in a single footprint and is out in the open after it wipes whatever it charges

You mean like all deathstars?
On the bright side it does have a 3+/4++ EW w/ FNP and a 3+/4++ w/ T6 FNP, so it's going to require some firepower to nuke it, and once the smoke clears either Cassius or Calgar are more than likely gonna still be standing.

Dear Teddy, you clearly don't know me. When most people think superfluous and wasteful, I tend to think OTT AWESOME. I don't play for comp and efficiency, I play for the awesome.

The honor guard are nice...until you face AP2 weapons. Without an invul, they drop like flies. Much prefer Calgar with termy retinue.

The unit is 1200 points, far too expensive for any standard game. Plus, the unit is majority T4, so it can be wounded quite easily.

Give Calgar the armor of ridiculous so he can ride around in rhino's and people call you hax
(Armor of anticholus isn't listed as terminator armor- its 2+ with 4++ and inbuilt teleporter, but doesn't say its terminator armor. So there's nothing to stop him from riding in a rhino! Except the GW Faq which im pretty sure fixed it. But if your friends don't know about it...
Armor of anticholus becomes armor of ridiculous )
It actually does say Terminator Armor. The codex says it's terminator armor with an inbuilt Teleport Homer.
You could have Calgar+Honor Guard/ CC Terminators in a LR, dump them out, them teleport more CC terminators in without fear of scatter.
