Irony. I haven't noticed any typos or misspellings in GW books, but I haven't really given one more than a cursory glance in quite some time.

Ya..whoops...point and case they should not pick me for the job. Overall I've been satisfied with the Fantasy books, 40k being the "bigger" game I'm interested to see what they turn out like.

I hate to be 'that guy' but you were right in the first place... one hires an editor to achieve a higher standard of writing.

back to the topic though, in order to make the codex worth it for the price, i think better binding and a PDF CD would be nice. that way my book won't fall to bits, and i can always print out a new one if i lose it. I personally fail to see how the Tau codex that i can remember paying £12 for (some of my older friends payed £10) is now worth £20 due to the rising costs of paper or whatever reason they are giving. the content hasn't changed, their value in the game certainly hasn't changed, and adding that much to the price is just a little silly...

And yet companies do just that and are healthy and selling products. Paizo pubishing, in the RPG world, sells their books, with PDF included, if you have a subscription to them.

i could share all my PDF's across the globe, just like everyone else who hs them. Yet somehow Paizo still manages to keep making money and not have to worry much about it.

Funny that. According to Paizo, it costs very little or nothing because all the work is already done setting up for publishing the print.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

Even though I don't like the fact I've dropped 60 bucks on two codexes I take them with me every where and just read them and build armies in my head at work and on break. I don't trust my co-workers with a a spork (they would steal it) but they won't touch my geek material thankfully. So for me, its justified, because mondays is IG codex day! Then we have Orks Tuesdays, Dah Rules 40k book wehnsday, Hard back rules thursday, and Ork or IG codex fridays!

Solution 1: No. Compared to the models the codex is nothing as far as prices go, having them be free wouldn't increase model sales, just decrease money from codex sales. Pretty much instead of buying a $30 codex and $30 in models they will buy $60 in models, they are still getting the same actual income.

Solution 2: No for two reasons. First I want an IG codex, if I wanted to play marines I would buy marines, also you should combine similar codexes like IG and Tau (both are shooty armies) or related armies (Grey Knights and Chaos Daemons). Secondly it would require that they update codexes at the same time which isn't feasible.

My solution is this, save up when a new codex is coming out so that way when the codex comes out you can immediately put out 40 bucks, it is cheaper than a lot of models anyway.

Warhammer Fantasy gets the Hard-back, color books; why not 40k? Maybe after the 6th edition release, this'll change, and the BRB will be in color?

GENERATION 7: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

I recall reading on Warseer that the next Chaos book will be hardback and in full colour ala Fantasy. In any case, it makes sense. That does not, however, mean it is true.

£27.50 is asking a lot, for me. If the books didn't have obvious and glaring errors in them (Irritatingly I actually went for the job that deals with that, Design Studio Sub-Editor. Turns out a bloke who already worked for the company got the job), if the books didn't have poorly-written or recycled background in them, if the books gave me value for money? Perhaps. In any case, I'd still try and get them from a discount stockist.

Compared to the outlay for a new army, it's a relatively inexpensive item.

Field of Glory uses army books. Each one covers a period or genre, for example, Imperial Rome and enemies, Graeco-Persian Wars, etc.

They are typically about 80 pages, full colour, and contain about 10-20 armies each, along with historical campaign notes.

Cost is about £9 to £10.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

The Warmahordes army books are about 120-140 pages with fluff, rules, gallery/painting tips and are full color AND $10 dollars cheaper. The anthology books are about the same size, contains new fluff, rules, gallery/painting tips for the entire system(s) and come out about once a year. You also do not need the books to play unless you want to buy them since the rules are printed on the cards that come with the units. Expansion rules are generally printed in No Quarter as well, so this comparison pretty much falls flat.

The reason some people buy codexes as they actually want to pay for commercial products they desire to own.

Some people.

Also, I mentioned that PDF capability is barely a boon, I'm not telling people to go out and pirate.

I mean, seriously, from a monetary perspective; if you want a PDF, you can get one. Even if you already own the physical book, a digital copy can be useful. My argument is that the price increase is not at all justified by a 'free' digital copy. Especially given how easy it is to get one online; or even to scan your existing codex if you own a scanner. Bam, digital copy. Without any extra cost. Whether you pirate it, scan it, photograph the damn thing, or even just transcribe bits you find important (particular unit stats, for example); it is far too easy to get a digital copy. So no, the price increase is not worth a PDF at all.

As for typos? Their website. God, it's awful. The amount of "Pyschic Powers" is staggering. Their grammar, too.

Spoiler:
Hey everyone! Go pirate everything! Go do some casting, too! And shoot a puppy!

EDIT: I missed the next page, somehow. Anyway; PDF is a nice thing. A quirk. It's nice to have. It is not worth such a price increase. Do Paizo sell their books for $41 because of the PDFs? You proved my point for me. It basically costs them nothing to add PDF functionality to their books. It will also basically cost GW nothing to add PDF functionality to their books. This deserves a price increase? No. Not even if PDFs weren't available in any way whatsoever.
