Which won't do squat. A LandRaider has minimum of 3 guns. It is just bristleing with firepower, even if you get a couple of weapon destroyed.
The only way to deal with Land Raiders or a Monolith or anything else that is A14 is ignore it and kill everything else, send a Monstrsous creature at it, or Zoanthropes

In your scenario, you just got lucky. You should have protected your MC or brought another MC

Yes - it has a minimum of 3 guns. Immobilizing it and killing one sponson renders it effectively useless.
Yes - I should have had my Hive Tyrant to deal with it, and will readily admit I was a moron when I lost him (deployed just him in DoW, forgetting about the drop pod that dropped a bunch of melta in my face).

I'm not saying Hive Guard alone are enough. I am saying they are not useless against AV14. Shoot empty Rhino that is missing a storm bolter? Or shoot Land Raider?
I shot the Land Raider and waited for the Rhino to tank shock - then killed it with DoG.

If the land raider does what a transport is supposed to and moves at cruising speed your trygon is only hitting on sixes, i.e never.

Well, twin scything talons, adrenal glands and 7 attacks on the charge means you will usually score 1-2 hits. That said, killing the LR is only half the battle, as if it's "Doing what a transport should" it will be full of unpleasantness for the trygon, which will almost certain result in it's death.

4's alot.

Also you gotta think that land raiders can't score, so no reason to eat them first.
