Hey guys, found a few moments today to paint up some more dudes. I finished my 3 Infantry Squad Seargents with power weapons, my Commisar (an imperial no less! He doesn't appear to be a turncloak) and 2 Plasma gunners.
I am really pleased with the Commisar for how quickly I got him painted up.
Anyways, back to the family!
Enjoy!

Looking good, and amazing progress! My only suggestion is to drill the barrels on your HW. People will mention it the more people see it.

Thanks for the reactions! I also like my Executioner, its great in the game and looks great on the battlefield. I believe I get a 6++ save for decent paint job.
I plan on getting an army wide shot when I get home and posting it on here. I can't believe how quickly it is coming along. Just need to do a little each day and then BLAMMO! painted army! Just in time for 6th. I just have more guardsmen to paint...
I am going to be working on my new Guard/Chaos Marines allies list so I can get the Chaos Marines units done and painted up. Stay tuned!

That is an impressive looking force. With any luck the 6th Ed rumors are true and GW is bringing back Cults as an actual list, no more "once size fits all" for IG.

Allies! I have begun!
I am not sure exactly what I am going to use from Codex: Chaos Space Marines, but I do know the HQ will be the Daemon Prince that I had you all pray for a month back. I also am pretty sure I am going to use Berzerkers in a Rhino for my required troop and then finally... Terminators!!! Here are six of my older Chaos Terminators, painted over and painted over that just got tossed into some fresh PURE simple green. I hope to get them cleaned up my tomorrow and look to get them primed and done up ala World Eaters to go with my Berzerkers. My Prince has red armor, so he could be Khorne too. We shall see. Eitherway, stay tuned!

Yeow, ain't that right? Maybe the "mystery terrain" stuff in the new rule book will have the "Lake of Simple Green", all units in it lose their armor saves.

Anyways, I pulled out my terminators and the paint just melted off. I was stoked. Mental note, do NOT dilute the simple green, it works about 1920109 times better in concentrated form. I scrubbed the models down to their primer and even got off most of that with a tooth brush. I also cleaned off an old Mark II (?) Rhino hull I got from a friend and am starting to convert that to my dedicated hydra. I might have a second one hiding somewhere, so I can make them match. My prediction is that hydras will be much better than in 5th edition, which is an added bonus for me.

I modeled up my 3 Terminators I plan on using as a deepstrike/combi-melta/suicide unit. They look great. I will get a picture tonight before I prime them. Still not sure what list I'm running yet, but am having a few competition based questions. I looks like Straken will not affect my Chaos units as they won't be Brohiems together... bummer. We will see if this changes what I am planning, but most likely it won't. I want to have a cool army, not so much a WAAC army.... though winning is fun.

Also, switched up my bases on my 7 Berzerks so they match this army. I will get pictures when I get home! Woo!

Hey all!
Quick update: The Zerks are on new bare bases, waiting to get the basing treatment when I next base some models.
The Hydras are assembled and primed! I made a lot of progress when I had about a free hour. I had found an old Predator and ANOTHER old Predator to go with it. I took off the turrets, stripped one of them in Simple Green, got them down to the basics, used some random pieces that I had two of and covered up all of the holes/ports and the like. For the actual hydra turrets, I used for one two autocannon dread arms. I magnetized them to two of the circle port things that go over the holes on the rhino attached to a Havoc Launcher mount. The other is the same mount but with 2 Autocannon teams guns and 2 sentinel guns. Both of those we mounted to a base (one was a terminator size base, the other a piece from the defiler kit) on top of a newer rhino/razorback hatch. I added various glyphs and chains, some spikes and primed em up. I am very happy with the result in such a short amount of time. I'm glad that my two Hydras are basically the same so it doesn't look like they were just slapped together from spare parts... which they were!
I also had stripped six terminators but ended up only making three. With the new rules for the Power Weapons, I decided to arm them all differently and will find out the prices in the future whenever they release the FAQ for the codexes. All three have combi-meltas, which I know I will want nearly all of the time. One guy has a wicked looking lance from Fantasy, one guy has a mace and the last guy has an axe. I like the look mainly. I accidently primed them with a satin finish black I have from Painters Touch instead of the flat. Ah well, it will all be covered none-the-less.
As of now, all of my Guard will have the same scheme and all of my Chaos Marines will be slightly different. I am thinking mainly black/red/gold with some freehand lava cracking like I did on that Rhino you can see in the background. Its just about the same technique as the lightning/power weapon effect but with different colors. Either way, here are the pics, enjoy!

Firing up the ol' airbrush tonight. I plan on laying on the bone color on my 2 Hydras then busting out the red to hit them both with the stripped red camo pattern I did on the Hellhound. Also, that is the same red I would do the Terminator main armor in, so I am going to base coat them as well. If I get really frisky, I might finish the bases on those Zerkers so they look like they belong to my army also. I am so excited.

Now since the new rules are out, how should I run that Daemon Prince? It looks like in the FAQ, they are only Mastery Level 1 even if they get the Mark of Tzeentch (which is TOTAL BULLSH!T!). If that is the case, then I guess they can't use Warp Charge 2 powers? Lame. On a not lame note, it looks like flying Monsterous Creatures are going to be tough to handle. We will see. So what are your suggestions? And what about Raptors now? They seem better too.

They way I interperated it (I could be wrong here) is that you can take and use Warp Charge 2 powers... Only every 2nd turn :(

As for the models, looking good so far and keen on seeing more!

The Hydras are just about done. I just need to finish a couple of details like the Chaos glyphs and such. Also, anyone have some insight on the Gets Hot rule and the Executioner? Looks like you make a Gets Hot roll on the plasma cannons but I didn't see anything about the main cannon... we shall see. Maybe I should change the sponsons to multimeltas. Who knows.
Either way, making some progress. Stay tuned!

Like the stuff youve done so far (and at an impressive speed). I also like the minimal (but effective) use of chaos spikes (something Im looking to reduce in my own army).

My only suggestion would be to increase the scale of some of the chaos stars and markings - some of them look a little understated for rabid followers of the dark gods! Have a look at some of the work done by Dave Taylor http://davetaylorminiatures.blogspot.com.au/search/label/Chaos%20Stars - it inspired me anyway

Keep up the good work mate.

The stripes are, yes.

I took the advice of darkkyt and went to the link he posted. I recreated the effect using red instead of white and I believe I pulled off the "my guys painted chaos stars on their tanks" look. I am very pleased and it looks quite nice at a distance. I think I will put some chipped paint effects on the paint too to have some of the base color show through. This didn't take me that long either and I think it really bumps up the vehicles a notch.
Thanks for looking and stay tuned! I have my first game of 6th tomorrow and plan on only using painted models (if possible!) and getting pictures.

Up next is hitting the Vendetta with the big-ass chaos star on one of the wings... wish me luck.

Woot! I love holidays and vacations! Being the great 4th of July, I had no work and in turn have had 20-30 minute snipets in a ROW of time to work on models. I am in the process of adding glyphs to my vehicles free-hand and they are coming out AMAZING!!! I am so excited to use this stuff.
Here is the Vendetta with a free hand giant chaos star on the wing. I used a terminator base to get the rough circle then followed the technique posted by darkkyt to pull it off. I heavily weathered it to make it seem the traitors painted it on and it is chipping off heavily.
Lets see what else I can do today! Enjoy!

Combi-melta suicide Terminators (maybe they won't be suicide anymore considering how much better 2+ armor is) is base coated with the red and washed. All that is left is the grey on the guns/weapons, power weapon-up the weapons, cloth and then gold trim. Not sure if I want the trim to be gold of World Eaters or Silver for Word Bearers, but I will see when I get there.
The process so far was a simple green bath and a scrub
a quick soapy water wash
black primer
airbrushed scarlet red from vallejo game color
airbrushed from right about blood red from vallejo game color
wash with agatharn earthshade (the new delvan mud)

I might go through and rehighlight with blood red but we will see. Maybe that will be an end step when I finish everything else on these guys.
Thanks for looking.

Terminators missing one or two details and needing bases. I am very pleased with how these turned out. I decided on the Word Bearers theme, fits my current color scheme with the guard well.

The process after the red:
paint on cold grey (?) from vallejo
paint bone white from vallejo
wash bone with sepia
wash grey with earthshade
paint powerweapon blades black
add a rough couple of turquoise lines to the blades
add a white line in the center of the turquoise
was blades with blue
rehighlight with white

Probably should do their eyes green and pick out a few more details here and there then base them up. I play my first game of 6th tonight! Fired up!

Got a little more done this week and played my first game of 6th edition! I must say, that game was the most fun I have had playing 40k since I was 15. What an improvement. My Vendetta aka Sky Warp ended up taking out all three of my opponents (he was playing regular old lap dog Guard)! The way flyers work now make a very cinematic game.
In other news, I made a Chaos church from a small wood church my wife found at Hobby Lobby for $5.99. I took off the cross (shhhhh don't tell any Bible thumpers) and put a Tzeentch icon on top, put some spikes in the windows and an eye of horus in the main window. Simple and will look great painted, I hope.
I also based the terminators and did their eyes up real fast. I am pleased.
Lastly there is an entire army shot so far.
I played 1800 against my buddy and only used painted vehicles and had to only use like 10 dudes not painted up. It was great!
Stay tuned!
Plus thanks for the Word Bearer props, I will most definately spread the word.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Quick note, was inspired by my old Death Guard sarge (front and center) and decided that I wanted a little flexibility in the mandatory troops slot for my CSM allies. In my last and only game of 6th, my Zerks got their Rhino blowed up turn one and died to 3 men before I got to move them. I managed to move up about 9 more inches before they all died. With FNP moving to 5+ but pretty much always getting it thanks to T5, I believe the Plague Marine got a bump in 6th. So here they are, complete with their Deathguard shoulder pads from the GW blister that you could find here and there. I plan on going:
prime black
base coat in some sort of brown (like the 3 back guys) with my airbrush
heavy dry brush catachan green equivilant
heavy dry brush goblin green equivilant
medium dry brush of rotting flesh equivilant
do details in the brown and wash that with earthshade
paint guns grey, earthshade wash
base
voila

Stay tuned.

Played my second game of 6th edition, but this time with my Necrons! Didn't finish due to time (my buddies babysitter was only availible for so long), but had a great time!
As far as hobby progress goes, I found 4 more armless old metal Chaos Terminators in my bits box. My last game, my Terminators (only 3 as pictured) did amazing, taking down the 14/14/14 terrain peice with the gun on top and then contesting an objective while not taking any losses in return. Terminators seem better so I might want to have 10 painted up and ready to use. Plus the first 3 came out great and didn't take super long to do.
Also, I'm super disappointed in the fact that the Hydra Flak Tank doesn't have "interceptor" also, which really played into the game I played with them. Hrmmmmm.
Lastly, I found some GREAT Chaos bits for my second Vendetta (which I might run as a Valk with the HellStrike missiles!), which I plan on modelling tonight!
Stay tuned!
