Strangely I just bout 3 records this morning from a shop in town

My wife and I will occasionally pick up a record on ebay or something. I think we have about 10-20 now (mostly Queen albums ).

Queen is definitely worth owning on vinyl. My parents had a few Queen albums and I used to listen to them often. Them and Black Sabbath, my dad was a big fan of theirs.

I have the Clockwork Orange soundtrack on vinyl - my parents owned two copies for some reason and gave me one.
There's also Number Of The Beast, by Iron Maiden, plus a single from an early album (it had Remember Tomorrow on the B-side).

Psh. Laserdisc is where it's at.

Honestly though, vinyl's are awesome. I wouldn't go as far as buying new music on vinyl, just the older stuff.

Vinyl - the best music format for overall sound experience to this day.

I have somewhere in the thousands of records, 7's, 45's singles and EP and LP. I think I even have a 10" lurking about in the collection.

I have gotten these from all over. Mostly not online, unless it was something I just could not find locally. I am lucky to have a record store still in business nearby.

Thrift stores have gotten me some very good records, and a few that I had never heard of, blank label, indy print 12" singles that turned out to be really good records for mixing with. I used to be a club DJ, so was always looking, and still do when I can.

My collection has a lot of 80s pop in it. Metal, Punk, Blues and Jazz. I buy new music I like on vinyl if it is available.. but they rarely do vinyl releases for anything I want now adays.

And as said before, the artwork on a record is just fantastic, you can not get the same experience from a cd, tape, and certainly not an mp3.

Well, listening to one of the records I bought today at the moment - London symphony orchestra and Royal choral society "classic rock"... First song is an orchestral version of bohemian rhapsody

Also got some bowie and some led zep and rolling stones

Funny, I can almost always find new music I want on vinyl, I suspect though that might be due to the nature of the music I listen to. Modern Progressive rock/metal and Post rock/metal bands tend to be a little obsessive about sound quailty and seem to naturally flock to vinyl. A win win scenario for people like me really.

I love some of the record sleves you used to get - even with just a simple picture they have so much more impact than a CD cover. If I ever somehow become a recording artist I think I will insist all my stuff has a record sized sleeve and loads of cool stuff like pull out sections, fold out bits and all that awsome stuff

There are a few releases like that out there, I've got a couple.

Although even in a large size package I've yet to see any CD release that can match the triple gatefolds used for some 70s live albums like Yessongs by Yes and Welome Back My Friends To The Show That Never Ends by ELP. Now those are impressive to look at

Im thinking of mostly looking for Techno/Industrial type music, as thats one of my fave styles of music, but I certainly wont turn down any good rock albums thats for sure. I think theres a place I can buy records from a few miles away on Dort Highway, but the problem is, Dort is a pretty gakky stretch of road in Flint, and runs through a bad section in flint, so....... I dunno

Again, it's a long drive, but Melodies and Memories in Eastpointe has a TON of techno and industrial stuff... Take I 75 south to 696 East, get off at Gratiot, turn right, it will be on your right just after 9 Mile. It's a Green building...

You want a great example of just why Vinyl beats CD/digital....
Led Zepplin "The Immigrant Song". Listen to the digital then the vinyl at close to the same volume.

HAD a copy of the Who's Quadrophenia with the full photo album.... got stolen by an ex.

Queen rules.

I have original Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, Beatles, Eddie Cochran ETC singles circa 1960s, plus loads of albums.

I've really gotta clear the crap of the top of my decks now, thanks to this thread.

I do still rummage around in charity shops for vinyl too. Not necessarily for good vinyl though! Anything that has some kind of use for music production tends to take priority.

Things like the Muppet album, Issac Hayes, Telstar disco classics, and classic orchestral compilations etc...

I'm probably quite embarrassing to be around in charity shops. Whooping with glee because I found something where the music is even worse than the haircuts on the sleeve.

The last vinyl record I bought was Metallica's "And justice for all.". my last few record (And video game) purchases were downloads. While we're at it, the last cassette tape I purchased was "Stay hard" by Raven, and I've only ever owned one 8-track, "Dirty deeds" by AC/DC. I listen to radio over the internet, I only watch on Netflix what I can watch instantly from their site and I have come to peace with the fact that I have to sign on to Battle.Net to play Diablo 3. what next, a thread about people who make their own musical instruments from driftwood? No thanks.

On that note, I pulled out Robin Trowers Bridge of Sighs yesterday during some painting and listened to it for the 10 millionth time. Im not a fan of the guys other records, but that whole album is just classic rock gold.

Unfortunately, it's illegal to take driftwood without a permit thesedays, so even if you did live by the coast you might do better with icecream sticks and seagull bones. If you get really lucky then you might come across a rotting albatross. Their rib-cages will do the bass ranges of your ghetto-pirate xylophone quite nicely.

I have a decent collection of LPs. Most of them I got from yard sales. Erevything from 80's hair metal to 60's/70's country. My favorite albums to show off are my Beatles collection (St. Pepper's picture vinyl that's in good condition, Abbey Road in decent condition, and the White Album in...not so good condition haha)...best part is, I don't even like the Beatles I planned on selling them off eventually

Dude...

Leaving that unpleasantness aside, this is where I work at the moment...

...It doesn't feel like work, to be honest. Cataloging literally thousands of vinyl LPs, CDs, books (poetry, classic American literature, tons of sci-fi and pulp, graphic novels, sociology and cultural theory texts, journals...), comic books (seriously, thousands), Laserdiscs, VHS, cassettes and various assorted miscellaneous objects is one hell of a fun job.
