in a fire... AAAAAAAHHH!!$*five@!!

Glad to see some people still like 'actual' books
Personally i like the fluff and pictures in the rules books and codexes, even though I know it makes it harder to find the rules or tables you are looking for. If they did digital versions with *just* the rules and army lists, it should obviously be significantly cheaper. It also seems odd to publish to just one form of digital media, but then it seems odd to me that Black Library isn't on Kindle already. They do know we still have to buy the ridiculously expensive little plastic guys too, right? Charge me for the toys sure but jeez where else do you spend $50 on a paperback book?

I have the Chaos Marines, Dark Angels, and Empire ones. And they are glorious.

Love the interactivity of it. Love that I can click a special rule and have it explained in a pop up. Love that I can quicklink from a model description to its army entry.

For me, the interactivity of it and the ease of use make it well worth the cost I'd be paying for the hardcover. Would it to be less expensive? Sure. But the ease of use and updating of it makes it worth it IMO.

+1

Also in another format I dislike Apple

None of the Poll options are right for me.

If I had an iPad, I would. Alas, while I would really like one, I just have other priorities for my money.

No, I don;t have an Ipad or any interest in owning one.

If I could have a bare basics army pdf for the phone, great. GW ain't gonna do that though.

I went to a tournament a couple of weeks ago and bought the CSM one.

Having all of the information available (with a search function) including an explanation of all special rules was a god send. Being able to have all of the FAQ's available in the same place was an enormous help as well.

Pricey, yes, but convenience trumps cost in my opinion. I will definitely be buying the e-format moving forwards if its for an army I intend to play in a competitive environment and don't want to take a library with me!

I buy the codecies as they are released in iBooks.
It works out cheaper for me as I don't have to shell out for shipping.
(where I live/work there are no GW or FLGS)
I like the fact that the FAQ updates are integrated.
In fact, the last update to my SM codex included the Storm Raven.
I use the codex during games and find it well laid out with intuitive features.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

I am getting an ipad in 2 weeks for just this purpose! I don't normally use apple products. I don't even like them. I have a windows pc, a google os phone, etc.. But you can't deny the usefulness of the rules on touch of keyword, and integrated FAQs. I'm sold.

I'd be more inclined to buy a digi codex if the cost of them reflected the cost it takes to produce, print, bind and distribute them. Just hacks me off when someone so obviously ties to rip you off. If it came with a discount on the physical version or something that would at least be a nod to their customers rather than another mocking finger in the air it would ok..... But oh well

GW has never been known for its "pile 'em high and sell 'em cheap" pricing strategy.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I've taken the plunge, I bought the Dark Angel codex and the same as people here, the search function, the glossary, and the pop-ups that show weapon/perk stats is ridiculously handy.

You get more functionality in the digital version, you can buy stuff through it, see 3D models etc and it's automatically updated, from what I can tell, I was looking through the FAQ for the rules amended and they looked like they're already there

For me the "problems" I see are - basically - two, with some adjustments or additions that could even improve the return (people interested in all the fluff, people who buys physical codexes but want to keep light when playing around, wannabe collectors who are tight on budget...)

The problems are first: the platform - I'm not sure is wise totally ignoring the android market; second: the price: I know and I see that there are costs and such, but the higher the price, the smaller the portion of gamers that will buy the product.

Additions/adjustments are a different matter...
On one side we have the interactive, current formats, but why can't we have a 'budget version' with pdf/ebook? With that we sttil have the "basic" book with search
Also, with little effort, it's possible to add simple hyperlinks (index to army list to description to reference etc.)
All this without having to modify the "power version" they are currently producing.

Books don't run out of battery.

I hate apple products and GW's, like many other company's, policy of treating apple as the sole handhold device retailer god is deeply unwise.

Also even though I haven't read the wording of the user agreement, I'll bet that the wording is such that you do not actually own the content in the same way as a book, merely you have purchased the right to use it, this is to prevent reselling etc, itunes and I think steam has similar clauses (not that stops me having piles of steam games).

The only plus is auto updating.

No. Not ever.

Even if I owned an Ipad.
(which I don't and having worked for apple, never will.)
I haven't bought a GW army book of any kind in the last two years and won't be ever again. I prefer the physical book version of things anyway - not the limited rights usage thing that ibooks have (you have the right to download and use it, but you do not own it and can't resell it).

Not while the internet exists.

I think some of the "justifications" here are hilarious.

I love all my digital codeces. That FAQ for the new TAU book? Automatically updated. The books are incredibly functional, with all the quick links, etc.

I was paying regular price for the hard codeces before. I no longer have to flip through for quick reference. I tap the word.

When android users are willing to prove that they spend money on apps or in eStores (the market research bears out that they don't) then there will be more motivation for folks to publish more for android. Til then......

I would get a digital codex if they:

Drop the price to match discount sites,
Make it available on anything other than an Apple.
Allow a low-res version, with the pictures turned down. If I ever get one, I want it to load fast, and make 'turning the page' fast, too.

Without an iSomething or shedloads of money, I'll avoid them.
The main reason I want them at all is the auto-update with errata.

So, basically, you're completely discounting anyone that has any Apple product as an iSheep, regardless of why they have one or how many they have? That makes perfect sense.

I didn't realize if I owned any Apple product it automatically made me an 'iSheep.' Woe is me for that.

wow, so much butthurt.

Apple have iBooksauthor, which is incredibly easy to use. I could write a book now and have it uploaded and available for sale within a few hours.

It's easy as hell to develop, that's probably why GW have gone down that route, it's a free app that can make you money.

I don't get the hatred for mac stuff from some people on here, I've got the digital Tau and Dark Angel codices and compared to the Blood Angel and the old Tau codex I've got, the apps are far more accessible, AND they're constantly updated.

Just because someone buys an Apple product doesn't make them sheep, jeez, at least formulate an argument that supports your theory before jumping on a bandwagon

I dunno, macs are pretty good for my job (ironic considering their marketing), i still won't get any of their smaller devices because my boss isn't slowed enough to pay for that too.

Woah, woah, woah. Ya'll are reading too much into what I wrote. I have no hate towards macs, and or their users.

I just have no love for mac. That is all. I did not say ya'll are isheep. Instead, I wrote I am not one.

Let's leave it at that.

You pretty clearly inferred that if you own an Apple product then you're some sort of unthinking sucker, or iSheep.

I'd love to hear from those of you that "hate" apple products. Please, enlighten us as to why.
