I say a bloke who takes the time to make gak up and ebay a uniform has earned the right to wear a gong as much as those fethers!
It's Green Bean!
I had another NCO, completely unrelated to my chain of concern have a gak fit and nearly a fist fight with our top because a joe in my section got the same medal as I did (as the section leader). I never really got what he was on about in the first place since I was on my way out the door, but it mattered to him...A LOT.
Haha.. feth knows why eh? What possible difference does it make?
Even serving soldiers talk gak at the end of the day.. I don't see why people give a monkeys. My medals are all stuck in the attic somewhere and I doubt I will ever get them out again. As long as you have some cool stories for the pub, it means more than some gak medals anyway. Its just a bit of metal, and I have never understood why people are bothered. As I said, I think its people who do feth all. Whenever I meet someone who is a badge collector "How many medals have you got Matty? Did you get your wings Matty? Have you got a sniper badge Matty?!" Its always someone in the TA or the NG or some pen pushing clerk or something..
As long as you know you did something worthwhile, I think you are more than comfortable to have feth all pinned on your chest.
I never once wore my uniform out of work either, my brother wanted me to come all gonged up for his wedding but I wore a normal suit.. well.. a heavily stained one I pinched from my Dads wardrobe... I just think the more you swagger about in rig with gongs on the more you look like a bull gak peddler.
As always, YMMV.

This is a well meaning law, but I think SCOTUS ruled wisely. It should not be a crime to lie when not under oath.
It's not like you can't still charge a person with criminal fraud or any other crimes. But a harmless lie? While offensive, it's still free speech.

True but free speech get your arse int rouble if your bragging about your "false" accomplishments on the field of battle. I'm sure Matty wife is like my wife who has an idea what we've done while deployed in the box but not the details. Some things are best left in the pass. Still though I would love to call out a false bravo because he forgot RULE ONE of conduct off post. "Watch what you say because you never know who might be there"

I think anybody dumb enough to lie over something that will gain them little, is easy to disprove, and is likley to upset people trained in violence deserves what they get.
But I only lie when the upside is very good and the chance of being caught is very low.

Some do take it seriously.
Jeremy Michael Boorda was the first person to make it form the enlisted ranks to The Chief of Naval Operations.
Boorda died May 16, 1996 a suicide, having apparently shot himself in the chest.[9] The autopsy results were not released to the public. He reportedly also left two suicide notes; neither was released publicly, but they were said to have been addressed to his wife and to his Public Information Officer.[10] He was reported to have been distraught over a news media investigation, led by David Hackworth of Newsweek, into Valor device enhancements he wore on his Navy Commendation Medal and Navy Achievement Medal (small bronze "V" devices, signifying valor in combat), which the media report claimed he was not entitled to wear. He was said to be worried this issue would cause more trouble for the Navy's reputation. Former CNO Elmo Zumwalt, who was Boorda's commander in Vietnam, wrote a letter to the effect that Boorda's wearing of the devices was "appropriate, justified and proper."[11] Wearing a "V" to denote that a medal was awarded for in combat actions applied only to medals that could be awarded for meritorious service or for valor in combat (e.g. Bronze Star or Commendation Medal), as opposed to medals inherently distinguishing valor in combat (e.g. Silver Star and higher), and wearing the "V" device on the ribbon was not authorized unless the "V" device was specifically noted in the award citation.
Boorda was survived by his wife, Bettie Moran Boorda, four children, and 11 grandchildren.
Boorda's headstone at Arlington National Cemetery located at Section 64, Lot 7101, Grid MM-17.
In 1998, one of Boorda's sons requested a review of his service record. The Board for Correction of Naval Records, the ultimate arbiter of whether or not Boorda was entitled to wear the Combat "V" on both medals, determined that he was not.[12]
Emphasis mine...

Still, we are not talking about a GC, M. Service, M.Unit, or even a stupid Navy E... damn near anyone can get those.
As for Purple Hearts, I personally know a guy that got one for hitting his head while diving under a desk.
But a MoH, thats kinda special. You don't get one of those for just being in the service, or deployed somewhere..... That one HAS to be EARNED, and Vetted.
