I pretty much read through it front to back. Rules section isn't awful, 120ish pages with pictures and decent sized print. Really the only thing I don't like off the bat are allies-I understand the idea behind them, and done right they could have rocked, but they don't make sense from either a fluff or game balance standpoint, it's like a schizo mix of both.

Vehicle changes are...interesting. Also the fact that troops in a transport can't capture an objective, and that vehicles don't contest. That's a potentially huge change but not something I either like or dislike, it's just a change.

Allies rules make sense from both fluff and rules standpoint, or at least as much as they can. You have to have the option for allied Imperial Guard with Chaos so Chaos players can run something like a Lost and the Damned army, and while some of the alliances are a bit strenuous they largely make sense. Regardless, you don't need to take them, there's just more variety in what you'll be shooting at! I like that you can't score from inside a vehicle anymore. It was one of 5th ed's gamey problems.

First, check the aroma of the book. Then check out the binding and guess how long this beast will last. My fourth ed started falling apart. My 5th has survived, but thank the Emperor that a new edition is out as the 5th probably has six months left before it disintegrates. I do take them to every game. Then skim the sections before a full read from page one. From the glimpses in White Dwarf this should kick the game up to a whole new level. My poor wallet....

wait for the starter set to see if it comes with the same rule book, (cant see any reason it wont!) start by photo copying the rules section, (twice) giving one to my brother who's paying half. then read and re read them.them playing a few games with the rule change units eg jump packs, vehicles . As we are sharing the starter set we'll be fighting over who gets the chaos... If that's what's in there.

You will probably want to spoiler your reply!

Spoiler rules? That's the stupidest thing I've read on these boards today.

"Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn rats ass"

It's worth remembering that others may have been holding off to read the book for themselves. Did it cause any hurt to spoiler them? No? I didn't think so. So what's your beef? That's rhetorical fyi.

Lore, for me. I need an explanation for why Tau and Space Marines are best buds now.

Well, now that I got my book, the first thing I did was huff the crap out of that yummy fresh paint smell. Take that, brain cells.

Lmao! Quality comment

Any page refs for the SM / Tau thing? Or I do take it that there is no content on this?

There is no content on the matter.

Indeed, that rumor was entirely false. Tau are just buds with SMs for some reason. I suppose it could represent renagade Space Marines joining up with the Tau.
