I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

Actually, the Necron Codex specifically states that there are not enough shards to account for the entirety of the C"Tan pantheon.

Of course not. The Void Dragon is still on vacation after all, chilling on Mars courtesy of the Emperor.

By that logic, then, the Void Dragon isn't all that and a bag of chips, because there are, apparently, other C'Tan with mastery of technology and machines who *have* been sharded, and are quite capable of being fielded by Necron armies.

The Necrons don't have enough shards to account for the entire pantheon indicating that an unknown amount of shards escaped and that there could be 4 to 4,000 shards out and about.

Not really, seeing as the Void Dragon was starved out when it met the old man, and while all the C'tan have mastery of science and technology, only the Void Dragon's warriors were regarded as 'invincible'.

I thought the Nightbringer was the most powerful C'Tan? Or was that in the Oldcron fluff that the Deceiver tricked the Nightbringer into eating most of the other C'Tan?

No, the Void Dragon was the mightiest, but less infamous than the Nightbringer. The former had 'invincible' warriors, but the latter gloried in death and imprinted itself on all creatures as the symbol of death with the exception of the Orks who were shielded from the Nightbringer by their anarchic nature.

The Void Dragon would be a big problem for the Tyranids, but they'd probably beat him eventually.

I thought the Nightbringer was the most powerful C'Tan? Or was that in the Oldcron fluff that the Deceiver tricked the Nightbringer into eating most of the other C'Tan?
The Nightbringer was the mightiest in raw strength until he lost his favorite weapon in the Immaterium thanks to the Deceiver. Since then, the Void Dragon has been the most powerful in all aspects as his ability in manipulating all of actuality - which already made him potentially the most powerful even before the Nightbringer lost his favorite toy - superseded those of all other C'tan.
So think of it this way, The Nightbringer is like a stereotypical club bouncer. He's big, and his physical prowess is immense but he's not too smart and always tries to overcome everything through brute strength. The Void Dragon is Bruce Lee in comparison, sure, not as strong as the club bouncer but will almost certainly beat the bouncer through the combination of decent strength, martial technique of untouchable finesse, knows how to use his environment to his advantage and just raw badassness.
