I still think IG should be battle brothers for Tau; Gue've'sa are well established as an integral part of Tau forces. It seems a bit daft that you can't play them as a fully integrated force.
Also Tau hate Orks; the codex specifically says that Orks are the one race they will attack on sight, as they've learned that negotiations are pointless. They should be desperate allies at best.

The Dwarf Wolf wrote: Lefting the character: Space Wolves and Dark Angels are not enemies, they are very proudfull allies with some rivalry. Booth Space Wolves and Dark Angels chapters make it clear that every time they meet (acting as allies, probably) they must have a ritual fight between 2 of their great champions, unarmored and unarmed, just to remember the old cism between their Primarchs. No one die in such battles... Aye, the Sons of Russ may be a smelly and unkempt bunch, but brothers in arms none the less! The duels are games of strength and skill, something any true worrier can comprehend. Besides, the 4th edition SW codex states that; "No one knows what happened to Leman Russ. Some say he disappeared in the Eye of Terror whilst searching for his old friend and rival, the Primarch Lion El'Johnson", hardly the action of two bitter enemies. My best friend plays Space Wolves and I play Dark Angels, we love playing up the rivalry in everything we do

Thanks for this - I had similar thoughts
I would add Tau to the Tryanids Allies as they can also be infected by Genestealers,
I guess you could even add Orks for the same reason - although their Bug Eyz tend not to last very long with squig hounds and the like about

Look, if Tyranids could take guard allies, the vast majority wouldn't do it to make a fluffy genestealer cult, they would do it to take fliers and tanks, which genestealer cults don't generally have. Even then the tyranid army would probably have to be guard allies, because the various generations of crossbreeds, as well as mutants and allied humans would greatly outnumber the genestealers. Please, let this argument die, I don't care if you can take other nids as allies to get some more slots in your FoC, just please stop it with the genestealer nonsense.
You are silly.
Allies are there to plug your armies' weaknesses, and IG antiaircraft/fliers are the exact things Tyranid really lack..
Or do you say wolf rune priest / eldar farseer with runes of warding are being included everywhere for flufiness? Hamernators for Tau?
Oh, and by the way fluff mentions genestealer cults among orcs; so tyranid should get them as allies too.

At least those can be vaguely justified. A genestealer cult will never have a carnifex, a hive tyrant, a guant, or any species of Tyranid besides genestealers and whatever they are reproducing with.

Nonsense - If the planet is stil resisting when the Hive Feel arrives, that exactly what you get - happens in the novels..............which is at least some backup rather than some of the rubbish in the present matrix

i think tau /orks as allies was partially a balance issue. orks lack strong long range anti tank and accruate mid range fire only lootas make much of a dent in that dept.
tau on the other hand fold liek a wet paper bag in close combat the two armies compliment eachother nicely on the table
in the fluff i could imagine a group of tau hiring some freebooter ork to help protec thier world from a tyranid or imperium attack.. or the orks just seeing the tau losing in a fight and decide to join the fight and its funner to fight the strong ones. or in the tau joining the ork camp the tau go to eliminate a tyranid threat discover the orks already there and decide bugs are scarier than concious mushrooms so back the green skins
as for the guys on pg 1 saying dark eldar and eldar don't get along.. seriously get a clue people it is established cannon they don't get along but either side would burn a thousand imperial worlds if it meant a single member of the eldar race were saved be they dark eldar or eldar.
