Thanks for all the great words of encouragement. I've notice that I've become faster and better at painting, and I've learned a lot in the process. I also understand that my Harpies are rather small. But know that I don't do tournaments, and if I did I would make sure to get approval before hand or make a build that didn't use them. I also try to be pretty generous with denying myself cover saves. The main reason I went with a Ravener is price. One box of Raveners can make 3 Harpies at the same cost of 1 Trygon Harpy conversion, and they are a lot easier to store. I plan on using them as Shrikes if GW ever releases a Harpy but they are really only for FLGS use.

Here is my latest completed projects.
Biovores were actually not as bad to paint as I thought they would be.

Spore Mines to go with the Biovores

My Mycetic Spores. They aren't that fancy but they are big enough to fit a Carnifex that's curled up into a ball. They are also pretty cheap to make.

Recipe: Hard foam ball from a craft store, 60mm base, paperclips, super glue, acrylic gel medium, standard GW paint stuff.
I mounted the ball to the base using sections of paperclips to stick into the base and the ball, then super glue to hold it all together (like pinning). Then I coated the ball in the acrylic gel to seal the ball and create the outside texture. Let it dry, prime it, and paint like you want. I wanted to go for a more slimmy look to make it look as if it came through the atmosphere using the slime as a heat shield.

Today we have two new models that are finished and ready to join the hive fleet.

A Carnifex

And a Doom of Malan'tai

i know the Doom is suppose to have more of a hood then extra spikes but I couldn't think of a good way to model it. I did what I could to make it stand out so it wouldn't be confused as another Zoanthrope. The blue at the bottom is meant to be life-force being sucked out of the very ground around it. The effect is done using green stuff and acrylic gel.

Next time will probably be Ravenors and maybe another Carnifex.

Thanks to the Thanksgiving break I was able to finish a lot of stuff this week.

First up is the mighty Swarmlord. Now, why would a Swarmlord be dispatched to a hive fleet in hiding on in a system with low biomass? Maybe the Swarmlord just wants a vacation; some Swarmlord time. Every day he goes off to work to bring home the biomass. When he gets home, Mrs. Tervigon is always on his case about how he isn't helping raise the Termagants and how Hormagaunt got into another fight at school today. Swarmlord's going to take a few days off to relax and sample some locals so he can come back refreshed.

Also, some Raveners

Next up, I might bit the bullet and take on a Trygon. Either that or another Carnifex.

Carnifex #2

Ripper Swarms

I'll probably never use them but Ripper Swarms were actually kind of fun to paint. Simple and quick. A nice switch from a big Carnifex.

Next I'm planning something special so it may be a while but I want it to come out nice. All I can say is "Cyborfex"

Announcing the Cyborfex. The story of the Cyborfex begins with the dark mechanicus raiding an Imperium world that had just pushed back a Tyranid force. The Imperium world was not strong enough to stop the dark mechanicus so shortly after the devastating Tyranid assault. As the mechanicus took resources and research subjects from the planet, one dark magos discovered a dead Carnifex. It's brain had been shot out from a some sort of anti-tank weapon but the body was still mostly alive. The magos felt this was a fantastic opportunity for experimentation and to make the ultimate combat servitor. The magos took the Carnifex back to the forge world and combined the most advanced tech he had stolen into the Carnifex. The newly named Cyborfex (or ED-209) managed to destroy several of the magos enemies with ease and allowed the magos to rise quickly in the ranks. All was well until the forge world became the target of a Tyranid force. Once Synapse had been reestablished with the Cyborfex, all inhibitors and control devices were instantly burned out and the Cyborfex turned on his masters. By the time the Tyranids made landfall, the Cyborfex had destroyed most of the world's defenses and forges.

This is a kit-bash between a Nemesis Dreadknight and a Carnifex. If I do another I might combine a Maulerfiend and a Carnifex. Also, i should probably get a nicer camera other than my cell phone.

In addition to the recent Cyborfex, I have finished another kit-bash. I thought of this one a while ago but it took forever to get Typhus. I ordered him in November and he didn't ship until December 28. When I saw Typhus, his little vent/smoke stack looking things on his back reminded me of the stacks on the backs of some larger Tyranids, like the Hive Tyrant, tervigon, and Trygon. From there it didn't seem too far of a stretch to convert him into an infested Marine. I will probably run him as a Tyranid Prime or maybe a Broodlord.
