So right before 6th edition came out, I decided to quit my Blood Angels and go full force into Tyranids. I know they are not super competitive but the fluff for them and the models are really cool. I've finished enough models to start playing so I thought I would show them off. I'm not a good painter, I just want to share the story of Hive Fleet Cerberus and get some advice on how to improve.

Hive Fleet Cerberus is a splinter from Behemoth. The small Cerberus exists to survive. It has taken shelter in a system filled with arid worlds with little biomass but away from any major imperial settlements. Their originally blue shell has since bleached white in the harsh sun. Hive Fleet Cerberus grows slowly but will some day be ready to move on to more fruitful systems.

Next up: Tervigon, Lictor (played as a deathleaper), Broodlord

I agree, you're being far too modest about your painting skills. Perhaps you may not consider them professional level or something, but they are certainly high quality, Clean lines, highlighting looks nice on the carapace, good color combo too. I wouldn't normally think of those colors together, but you've pulled them off nicely. I'd love to see a couple more close ups of the flyrant, especially from the front.

Anyway, nicely done.

The hive fleet continues to grow. This time a mighty Tervigon has been born to provide more termigant for the swarm.

Next a mighty deathleaper (actually a lictor but I play him as a deathleaper ) is formed to patrol the surrounding areas. The deathleaper's abilities allow it to patrol the local areas unseen and eliminate any threat that might wander too close to the hive's hidden retreat.

Finally, a gift from the small local population, the first genestealer has been born and it is a Broodlord. The small, superstitious, population in the area makes for easy prey. The genestealers shall soon dominate the settlements and await for the hive fleet to call them back to depart to more fertile planets.

Next up: probably some regular genestealers and some more termigants.

This time it's just some more Termagants but with Spinefists. I probably wont ever play them as Spinefists but I would prefer to have some diversity in my units and it keeps me painting a little differently each time.
The swarm grows as the Tervigon's belly swells with fresh Termagants.

Next up will be some Genestealers (they are done but didn't have an opportunity to get a shot of them), more Termagants (I had no idea a single Tervigon would need so many gants in reserve), and some warriors (built and primed so far).

Another update on the hive fleet. i have been finishing stuff but forgot to take pictures for a while. I finally got pictures today so here they are including my first finished Harpy conversion. It is a Ravenor body with Dark Pegasis wings mounted on a 60mm base. It is a cheaper and more portable option than a Trygon. To represent weaponry I used the rending claws out of the Warrior box and glued spore mines to them.

Next is my third block of Termagants, this time with devourers. the devourers turned out to look like watermelon guns but I'm ok with how they turned out.

Finally is the Genestealers to go along with the broodlord.

Next up: My other 2 harpies and some warriors.

A very different colour scheme to most Nids- really liking the reversal of the tones.
You just need to tidy up the edges of the bases as they still look unfinished.

Oh Snap! The hive fleet still lives and grows in strength. Mostly it is because i keep forgetting to take pictures while at my FLGS. Here is what i have completed since my last post.

Two new Harpy conversions. This makes a total of 3 complete harpies.

Tyranid Warrior Prime. You can tell he is a prime because of his HUGE talons. Maybe he is overcompensating for something

Finally a complete trio of Hive Guard.

Hopefully I will be posting more frequently as my Tyranids are all built and primed. Just have to start painting. Maybe I'll finish the rest of my warriors next, or some biovores, or even the new Spore Pods i just made.

2 Tyrant Guards. Sadly the Tyrant they guard isn't painted yet

5 Tyranid Warriors to go with my Tyranid Prime posted above.

Coming up: Mysetic Spores (2 are done but I forgot to get pictures) and a Carnifex

Clearly you have the same problem i do with art:

negative viewpoints.

I criticize every detail about anything artsy i find. Dont know why its just how i am. Personally i like it cuz i look at my own stuff and i see flaws so i can keep improving it. However i do it for other people's stuff so i feel like a dick lol.

Youre models look great. They arent super insane quality painted, but aside from big point models most people dont paint playing models THAT well. Your quality is still way better than most tabletop paintjobs (better than mine too, i aint that good at drybrush yet)

I really like everything I am seeing so far. Colour scheme looks good as well as the bases.

There is one thing I have issues with and that is the Harpy Conversions. Harpies are supposed to be almost as big as Trygons (somewhere between a flyrant and a trygon) and yours are INSANELY small for what they are supposed to be. To me I thought they were Shrikes (which is the only thing they could really count for). In a game of True Line of Sight things need to be as big as they are supposed to be otherwise you could be considered to be crossing the line of modelling for an advantage.

Here are two pics of the one I converted a while ago. Its made up of carnifex parts, balrog wings, a pile of greenstuff and parts from the metal 3rd ed Hive Tyrant (as they look like giant raveners in the pic).

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_hVZcagPD1ZU/TI580HlWl3I/AAAAAAAAAKw/cwHtktGFjdU/s1600/HarpyFinalFront.JPG

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_hVZcagPD1ZU/TI58y59W9VI/AAAAAAAAAKg/3X6YtPLIn-c/s1600/HarpyFinalRear.JPG

Its still on a 60mm base and not the Tyrgon base (as it doesnt have 6 wounds I didnt think it needed to be on the oval). Its not the best conversion out there but it is the appropriate size. I mean, you wouldnt let someone use Rhinos and say they were Land Raiders would you?

I know that was what could be considered a huge bout of negativety but I really am just trying to give constructive criticism and I dont want to take away from how good your army looks (which it does...love the yellow).

Yeah I agree with matapata. It does have a cell-shady appearance to it. The subtle lines along the carapaces is wonderful on the eye!
