I switched to Battlescribe ages ago - GW have never had any agreement with them and already tried to shut them down, so they switched to 'community datafiles' ages ago.
It's also free, and Java-based, so works on my Mac.

PP doesn't support any free list software. They used to, then decided they'd rather charge money for it and produced War-room(which isn't free if you actually want to build lists) instead, forcing the most popular to stop being produced and distributed.
Discounting Forward Kommander and other programs, of course, which they still support. Automatically Appended Next Post: cincydooley wrote:Panic wrote:yeah,

Likely near the end of the week. Exact release date unknown due to Apple being a bunch of pricks.

Forward Kommander receives no support from PP, iBodger DID by being advertised by PP. Support is an active thing. PP currently ONLY supports War-room, that other army list programs exist independently doesn't mean anything.

Eh? I don't seem to recall iBodger getting any official advertising from Privateer. Sure, Whicken has a thread on the forum, but that's about it. And they didn't precisely shut it down either: From what Whicken said, PP politely asked him to stop updating it because of their competing product, and he happily complied. It may seem like semantics, but there's a difference between getting a C&D letter or a friendly call from a Privateer employee explaining the situation and asking nicely.

The app's finished. We're currently twiddling our thumbs because Apple's approval process for apps is overly draconian, and simultaneous releases between OSes are apparently in right now. The app itself is free. The cards are $7 for each faction, last I heard. EDIT: Yep, $6.99 per faction, including all future releases for that faction. Bundles for all Warmachine ($35.99), Hordes ($29.99), or everything ($59.99).

That sound was the sarcasm going over your head.
1. Many people aren't big app people, so yes, it would only be for 1 or 2 apps for them. How many it CAN run is irrelevant because we're not going to be downloading them just because it does it.
I think this is a silly answer. Not being "big apple people" doesn't eliminate all other application possibilities from the iPad. Further, there are plenty of free apps to use on the iPad. I presume, based on this logic, that you also would refuse to use the internet browser because you're "not big Apple people." IMO, that's just ridiculous.
2. One single payment of $500 is a totally different animal from $500 over 5-6 months. If you can't see that difference, I envy your life.
But buying an army outright isn't that uncommon. Plenty of people do it. Hell, chances are if you bought into 6E you'll spend in the neighborhood of $150 just on rules and accessories and the few models you think are must haves for the new rules. Guess what? You know how you budget out $500 over 5-6 months for miniatures? You could do the same with an iPad.

"App" is a colloquialism for "application". Hence "app store", et cetera. It has very little bearing on whether it is Apple specific, Android specific, or whatever.

You could, but consider this: You do not want an iPaid. This could be because you chose to get a tablet from a different vendor, or simply because you have no genuine need for such a device. The value of such a device is directly proportional to the number of uses you have for it. Advocating a $500 gadget (that's questionably fit for the purpose you're advocating it for) as a replacement for an existing tool that is inexpensive, already implemented, and is easy to use is generally considered bad form.

Clearly I misread App and saw "Not Big Apple" peple. Doesn't change the fact that an iPad (or any tablet for that matter) is still good for PDF viewing, video watching, etc.
You could, but consider this: You do not want an iPaid. This could be because you chose to get a tablet from a different vendor, or simply because you have no genuine need for such a device. Fair enough. But as far as I know, GW hasn't stopped producing physical codexes, have they? I mean, we're basically arguing about a value-add product for people that prefer the portability of it. I'm advocating it as an alternative, not a replacement. There are times when I use my phsyical codexes despite the fact that they're all on my iPad. But again, it doesn't change the fact that GW will still be printing the hard copies.
As for Army Builder; I'd actually use it a lot more IF IT WERE AN APP on my iPad. I use my iPad far more than I use my PC anyway, so I'd welcome an App that allowed me to do my list building on a mobile device.

You know how many times I've come across errors in AB printed lists in my 12 years doing this? Maybe twice, where a stat line wasn't altered properly by magic items. That error had nothing to do with the person who wrote the list, and I'm sure the error was fixed in an update.
You know how many times I've seen errors on hand written lists? A crap ton of times. Sometimes it was people adding up points wrong, other times it was blatant cheating.
Also, no player wants to try and decipher the hieroglyphics that some 12 year old scratched down minutes before the game started. When I supply a copy of my list for tournaments or for my opponent to see after the game, it is nicely formatted and easy to read.
AB files may not be perfect(as are many things which are free on the internet), but it is still worlds better than hand writing a list.
And as people have stated:
Army Builder itself as a program is unaffected by this
The developers for the data files will continue to make data files
GW can do this as much as they want, people will just keep changing servers for the files, or they will end up being uploaded somewhere out of GW's legal reach like ThePirateBay or demonoid.

Again, OT, but I'll point out that you could probably write your own Battlescribe Data Files pretty easily. I have absolutely no programming/coding/complex maths experience, but I've managed to successfully submit a couple of finished BS data files to the general server..

I love how some people take a thread about one product, and instead of discussing that topic they plug their preferred product instead.
This thread has feth all to do with battlescribe. Leave it out of this thread.
AB does have a program for designing files iirc, though I'm not sure how hard it is to use.

It isn't hard to use if you know what you are doing.
You just need to be able to see where this change 'X' will effect 'Y' and 'z' there. That and a smattering of HTML coding will see you through.

I bought Army Builder a few months ago, I've been really impressed with it and found it great for producing a clear to see list to bring to games for my opponents to look over and for me to reference.
There is no evidence atm that GW would actually produce something of their own to replace it.
There is a likelihood GW would produce an inferior product.
There is a historical precedence for them producing something then failing to update it or keep it accurate.
There is a strong likelihood of the GW product costing considerably more than the AB.
This is so regrettably typical of the C&D-happy corporation.
