Subject: Re:Politicians barred from speaking at this years 9/11 Memorial ceremony
Politicians will have plenty of other venues to speak at, the Pentagon and the field in Pennsylvania where the 4th plane went down are all now gov't property after all.
There were a LOT of complaints at the 10th anniversary ceremony that victims families were shut out by all the VIPs.
I was one of them. I thought it was pretty disrespectful to have all those people pushed out so senators and bigwigs could sit and look pretty on TV
FDNY got excluded as well if I remember right.
How in the.... what the.... how could......
My head hurts.

Subject: Politicians barred from speaking at this years 9/11 Memorial ceremony
In a statement, Bloomberg spokesman Andrew Brent said the commemoration ceremony is for the victims' families.
"While we are again focused on accommodating victims' family members, given the space constraints, we're working to find ways to recognize and honor first responders, and other groups, at different places and times," Brent said.
There's only so much space, I guess. I don't really know the details of that though.
Also controversial was the mayor's decision not to include clergy or formal prayers in the ceremony: Religious leaders are calling on Mayor Michael Bloomberg to reverse course and offer clergy a role in the ceremony commemorating the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
City Hall officials, who are coordinating the ceremony, confirmed that spiritual leaders will not participate this year — just as has been the case during past events marking the anniversary. The mayor has said he wants the upcoming event to strike a similar tone as previous ceremonies.
"There are hundreds of important people that have offered to participate over the last nine years, but the focus remains on the families of the thousands who died on Sept. 11," said Evelyn Erskine, a mayoral spokeswoman.
"The ceremony was designed in coordination with 9/11 families with a mixture of readings that are spiritual, historical and personal in nature," Erskine said.
"It has been widely supported for the past 10 years and rather than have disagreements over which religious leaders participate we would like to keep the focus of our commemoration ceremony on the family members of those who died."
Makes sense to me... mourning isn't religious, it's human.
The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

That's just stupid, what the hell do victims' families need honouring for? You lose a loved one - literally everyone has, or will at some point. How does that compare to selfless bravery?
Whinging morons.

You'll note that I mocked him for what he posted. What I didn't do is insult the millions of other New Zealanders (and Australians) by belittling the sacrifice of the ANZACs in return for his comments. That's childish and petty, especially if you don't actually believe what you're posting. Not everything has to be a nationalist pissing contest, even on Dakka.

If you take that as in insult to the sacrifice of the aussie and new zealend soldiers or an attempt at instigating a pissing contest then I believe you may misunderstood my intent. He obviusly doesn't understand that 9/11 was a pretty big deal for us, and as such we honor those who lost their lives especially those that made a willing sacrifice. So I decided to the same argument around on him to attempt to make him understand, the gallipoli landings was the first thing that came to mind that would have similar cultural impact to a to a new zealender that 9/11 has to an american

Regards not slagging off mourners, I always think its fair game me. I mean, fairs fair.
Remember this classic video? If you haven't seen it, it's laugh out loud funny. "Lets talk about the thoughtlessness and mean spiritedness of your comments"
"By all means!"
I love the oily preacher guy with his "Lets elevate the civility of our discourse" fething nonsense.
I'm an equal opportunities hater me. I only feel happy when Im hating! I proper hate hippies for example, but I hate hypocrites even more, so I always encouraged them to make signs and throw insults at me. Call me a baby raper if it makes you feel better, that's your right.
I agreed with the marches through Wooton Bassett too. Ban them? For what?! I think that Muslims should be not only allowed, but encouraged to burn poppies, piss on graves and generally say awful things about soldiers. They have that right.
As long as In retort I can then say the things that get me endlessly banned from dakka.
Only if we allow people to say the offensive, can we ever clamber over this current wall of horse gak, whereby minorities and Religious people can get away with saying truly outrageous things, while everyone else has to constantly mind their Ps and Qs.
The Americans have the right of it in this regard.. In the UK you can wind up in court for being fething rude, and its the most ridiculous gak I have ever heard frankly.
We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

Just don't let poppa wind you up mate, I have seen him post some doozies during his stay here. He is one of the very few posters on here that really does seem to have a serious dislike for Americans due to the (probably quite fair lets be honest!) stereotype that many of you guys are a bit more overtly patriotic than most people.
Not like Matty.. I like Americans more than anyone precisely BECAUSE they are more xenophobic than Europeans.
I had a French plane providing air support for me once in Helmand... He was more conservative with his ammo than a guy with a six shooter during a zombie holocaust. It was only when we had an A-10 with a national guardsman behind the stick that things started to get fun!

9/11 is just used to keep Americans thinking that 'Terrorism' actually exists, and thats its around them at any corner when this is simply untrue
All that has been done in the middle east is the killing of innocent people (and no, just because some random Saudi and Pakistani's killed American civilians does not mean you guys can do that as well) and some militants that are part of a group called Al Qaeda which the American government made up to instill this fear
This whole installment of fear is just used to blind you of the real crap that is happening, which is the building of your empire in the middle east and to bring up oil out from there as well.
Since 2001 the Middle East has just become one big military base for the states to guard there assets there. Not to fight some imaginary foe and declare war under false pretenses and to invade regions THAT HAD NOTHING DO WITH ANY OF THAT BULLCRAP!
I predict big things for you round these parts, Poppabear. Big things.

Still though I totally agree on not allowing politicians make remarks at a ceremony dedicated for the families that loss love ones. Its not a political tool/event to booster one's carreer. It'll cheapen the ceremony itself. Watch how many politicians be at the Pentagon though for they're ceremony.
