New York (CNN) -- Politicians will be barred from speaking at this year's commemoration ceremony on the anniversary of the 2001 terror attacks, according to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum.

According to Joe Daniels, president of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, the foundation "is focused on honoring the victims and their families in a way free of politics, and this ensures that continues."

In a letter sent to victims' families Wednesday, Daniels said that the reading of victims' names by family members will be "the exclusive focus of the program" during this year's ceremony

Well good to see that the politicians will get stonewalled from speaking apart from of course. Mr. President who will deliver a good speech at New York.

Politicians will have plenty of other venues to speak at, the Pentagon and the field in Pennsylvania where the 4th plane went down are all now gov't property after all.

There were a LOT of complaints at the 10th anniversary ceremony that victims families were shut out by all the VIPs.

Got a source for President Obama speaking? From everything in that article no politician will speak. He might be there, together with other folks, but it doesn't look like he is going to say anything.

I'd be surprised if the President wasn't at least present. But banning politicians from speaking strikes me as a move to keep the memorial a memorial rather than a campaign platform in the middle of election season so the decision actually strikes me as being targeted possibly at Obama, so I'd be surprised if he said much too.

I think they should ban VIP's from speaking at these kind of events altogether or at the very least, limit their time so that families of those involved in such events get a chance to share their feelings.

He also helped to fund the First Responders Wall of Remembrance in Brooklyn, and he helped set-up a charity fund to build a new treatment & re-hab center for veterans who suffered serious head/brain injuries while serving and fighting the war on terror.
Not to mention all the work he does year-round with the USO.

If any VIP gets to open their mouth at this year's ceremony, he'd be about the only one I'd agree with.

Nobody likes politicians so I think almost everyone will approve.

yes it gets hella old really fast, but these people need fear to hold onto or else they start paying attention to real life and realize they done fethed up and gave away all their freedoms

But 9/11 was just an incorporation of fear. It was an excuse to go to 'war' with an enemy that is not there, but the government still invaded the Middle East which shouldn't have happened at all really.

9/11 is just used to keep Americans thinking that 'Terrorism' actually exists, and thats its around them at any corner when this is simply untrue

All that has been done in the middle east is the killing of innocent people (and no, just because some random Saudi and Pakistani's killed American civilians does not mean you guys can do that as well) and some militants that are part of a group called Al Qaeda which the American government made up to instill this fear

This whole installment of fear is just used to blind you of the real crap that is happening, which is the building of your empire in the middle east and to bring up oil out from there as well.

One of the stated causes of 9/11 was the presence of military bases in Saudi Arabia.

Go to 9/11 memorial.

Whenever anything happens politicians always exploit it to make it look like they care, it's fething irritating.
Prime Minister's Questions is delayed by 5-6 minutes by politicians bleating on about how much they personally feel the loss of servicemen in Afghanistan, plus the coppers at home, search and rescue personel, etc. And of course both sides have to do it, or it'll look like they don't care. It was even worse when there were three parties.

So yeah. Ban politicians from talking about anything. Ever.

I was one of them. I thought it was pretty disrespectful to have all those people pushed out so senators and bigwigs could sit and look pretty on TV
