Have you read any of the novels from the series? They are *mostly* fantastic. Plus, without the Horus Heresy, the 40k universe would just be the Emperor ruling the galaxy and chaos all but defeated

Personally, Winter Assault is my favorite (only wished it was longer)
Small changes in game play, the multipler races campaign, and a decent story (that you have to work at to read it) is the reason why it is so well enjoyed by many.
Im not saying it is the best, Im just saying those are the key things to look at.

I thought the original and Winter Assault were better as well.
And that Soulstorm was just as good as Dark Crusade.
But my opinions on games has alwasy been peculiar I suppose.

If you hate having to capture and protect objectives, don't you hate tabletop 40k? Cause a lot of it is about exactly that.

Hmm...But at least you don't HAVE to play with objectives, and you start out with your full army, as opposed to spawning a squad of Hormagaunts, trying to spawn another one, and being told I need to capture more points...

That isn't the same.
Control Points, sure, but not Requisition points and Power nodes which makes a lot of the game into a grimdark ring-around-the-Rosie.
