Not quite right.
You select "power weapon" when making your list, true.
But you select "Frost Blade" or "Frost Axe". There is no "Frost Weapon" option, so you pick the type when creating the list.

But here's the problem I'm having. For the same points you can have a Power Fist and be at Strength 10. In both cases you lose your high Initiative value (which is more valuable now thanks to the nerf to Furious Charge). That's more than a little lame. I don't know what GW was thinking with making them unwieldy. If I had wanted to strike last I would be rocking a Fist or Hammer. Super Ready wrote:Unfortunately, RAW wise Kiredor is correct. Frost Blade and Frost Axe are listed separately everywhere in the Codex. You don't purchase a "Frost Weapon". You specifically pick which one you want.

Remember that Power Fist is specialist weapon so you won't get +1 A for having 2 CCW unless you get two specialist weapons.
This is the reason why Axes are often better than fists.

Right, except 99% of Wolf Lords bring a Storm Shield to the party for a 3++ save. The shield oddly denies you the extra attack (shields can be a weapon GW!).

To be honest my Primary reason is the Coolness factor, which for some of us is more important than actual Killing Power.
Frost Axes are also great for Killing Characters, your Attacks are S6 AP2, so you can ID any T3 Model and sometimes that Extra Attack can make the difference.
Power Axes are not meant for Space Marines, they are for everyone else.
Look at most of the Imperial Guard, they have Access to Power Weapons. With the change to Close Combat Weapons now having an AP has a dramatic effect.
In 5th you could give your Commissars and Sergeants Power Weapons and have a Chance of hurting Terminators. Now with Power Swords being AP3 you would be waiting your time, also with your S3 AP3 Attacks you will not hurt Transports. Now if I give my Sergeant a Power Axe he becomes S4 AP2. He can now hurt a Transport/Skimmer and Punch Terminator Armor. If I can pull off a “For the Honor of Cadia!” it becomes S6 AP2, now he has a chance to kill a Transport or Skimmer. I know Melta-Bombs do better, but you sill go off in I1 and you only get 1 Attack. This gives the Sergeant 3 Attacks that wound the Ork Nob with his Power Klaw on a 4+. This is much better than 3 Attacks that wound on a 5+.
While I am at it: The Power Maul:
This to me is one of the better one’s choices. My Wolf Priest is now S6 AP4 Concussive. I know I loose the ability to Punch Marine Armor, but contrary to every one else out there does not Play Space Marines, many armies are a 4+ Save Army or worse.
A Commissar with a Power Maul [I have like 6 of them] has 3 S5 AP4 Attacks. That will let me Wound Orks on a 3+. He also has the ability to hurt Transports and most Skimmers.

It's true. I would totally rather take a power fist than a frost axe. But last night when I was converting up a wolf lord character, I wish I had reconsidered. Both the Storm Shield and the power fist are left handed. So if you want to go PF / SS, you have to cut, pin and greenstuff some plastic. Or you could go TH / SS, but then it costs more points.

I am sure that the Power Fist is superior to the Power Axe is most cases, all of my Grey Hunters Packs have Power Fist and that’s not going to change. Where feel I will be taking lots of Power Axes is is with my Wolf Guard Terminators. I have an entire 10 Man Wolf Guard Terminator Pack that is just minimalist list [it cost only 327 points].
>1x Wolf Guard in Terminator Armor with Storm Bolter/Frost Blade
>7x Wolf Guard in Terminator Armor with Storm Bolter/Power Sword
>2x Wolf Guard in Terminator Armor with Storm Bolter/Power Sword/Cyclone.
I might fit in a few Power Axes to give myself some AP2 Weapon. After all for Wolf Guard Terminators they are free. Will also sprinkle some Power/Frost Weapons throughout my Army, 90% of time my decision will be based on how it looks on the Model [or have it on Existing Models].
I just think there is a place for all of them depending on your wants and needs.
