My game group tried to play warhammer for like 24 hours straight but a few games in we where so drunk one guy fell over onto the whole shelf of terrain and totaled almost every piece. he grabbed me while he was falling and i fell on one of the dudes guitars and snapped the neck. Moral: beerhammer is only fun for 1 game.

Whilst I have had games go over a weekend, we weren't ever playing for the 48 hours constantly. WE took breaks and slept and stuff.

Addictive personality types take ANYTHING to the nth degree and almost always take it too far. Whether it is booze, drugs or other aberrant behaviour.

Makes me kinda glad that not only am I not one of them, I cannot perceive the mindset that allows them to be one.

One less diablo player is ALWAYS a good thing. Now if the Magic crew could start a trend ...

I have personally gone more than 40 hours without sleep while gaming - I'm just not a dumbass, and took a half hour here and there to rinse the stink off myself or go run the stairs and grab some grub.

Still, there must have been something else, like malnutrition to start with.

I guess I just won't understand, being really really hungry isn't something I could live with more than 7-8 hours. I've had my shares of days where I breakfast on a coffee mug or two, and then go through until the evening meal. The end result is far from being pleasant.

Yep, that would explain everything if he was on amphetamines. Sure, normally, you'd start to feel hunger pangs, or get woozy after a while, but uppers would suppress that. Combine the complete lack of nutrition with the number that the amphetamines would do to your system, and it's not too unreasonable to expect the guy to keel over. Especially if he was taking them consistently (which I imagine he was, being up for 40 hours straight).

For the record, they put that kind of stuff in diet pills.

Furthermore, you think that its a good thing when dumb people die, because it keeps the human race genetically 'clean' or whatever. So do you think I'd be good if the government went out and killed all the people with learning disorders, even well intentioned and innocent people who'd done nothing wrong but stand in the way of genetic 'purity'?

I disagree, normally back when we didn't have medicine or good doctors, nature helped to take the stupid ones out of the picture. We've gotten so good at surviving that the wastes of life that are part of the human species are getting through the netting. Being stupid might not warrant death, but it sure makes it alot easier for death to take you. Its a fact of life, and I think it should be as it is.

A common cause of people dying from long haul flights are clots that have formed from sitting still too long, these can break off and cause stroke, MIs or Pulmonary Embolisms. This can happen from flights from Europe to America which is a lot shorter than 40 hours where you just sit still for 12 hours. So that can certainly happen with someone sitting for that long playing a game, even without any possible chemicals/stimulants being taken.

Nope I agree with him. Its an incredibly STUPID way to die, and I find it hard to feel bad for the guy as well. All the kid had to do was take a break and sleep/eat it off, even once and he would of been fine. I mean, the signs HAD to of been there long before he KO'ed himself. Its a similar reason why I dont really feel sorry for people that commit suicide as well. They chose to take these actions, so I dont see a point in feeling bad for them either

Those are also in combination with the lowered cabin pressure (aircraft cabins are not pressurised to 1 atmosphere, but less than this. This is why your cup of tea doesn't taste that good (lowered boiling point) and your food tastes odd (not just because it's airline food - lowered air pressure has an effect on your sense of smell and taste).

You CAN develop DVT on a long haul train trip, but it takes longer (unless you already have certain risk factors).

I don't know whether the autopsy will result in the same thing found on a deceased korean teen found dead while playin' Starcraft ... decades ago

Jesus man, I didn't hear about this guy until I read this thread. Hilarious.

Gotta say, that's some hardcore gaming if you don't get up for forty plus hours. I raided in WoW, did the original Battlegrounds, and the longest I ever played was 18 hours, and that was with food/drink/bathroom breaks.

Of course playing old school Harpoon with my old man when I was just hitting the gaming scene might have been my worst...something like 20 hours over the course of 1 game.

But yeah, the guys who die due to lack of moving? They deserve all of the blot-clot induced death they get. Speaking of which...I'm going to go run around for a few hours, just in case.
