And thats with an employee cleaning it 2-3 times a day.
When I owned a FLGS, if I walked in after someone missed all over the placed...I walked out and pointed it out to the whole store. After all, I had to clean it up.

Between 2001 and 2006, I was one of those guys whose odor would make you sick.
I would shower about once every 3-4 months at that time. To be honest, the shower scared me. I kept thinking that pink goop would start coming out of the showerhead or faucet, and would try to kill me.
To be perfectly fair, that was also the time when the schizophrenia had started, worsened, and then after the diagnosis in mid-to-late 2004, the meds took a while to kick in at full effect, and then my meds were switched because the Zyprexa wasn't working well enough. Apparently one of the symptoms of schizophrenia is a decline in personal hygiene.

If you have a car I know that Conspiracy Comics in Burlington has generally respectable individuals, or at least it did whenever I went there, although I think they have fewer weekly games with a greater focus on tournaments. Alternatively, there is Bayshore Hobbies on King West (its near McMaster where Westdale starts to merge into downtown). I haven't played there but the staff were quite friendly and when I was looking at models they mentioned that they had regular games there, so it might be worth your time to check it out.
I frequently go to Black Knight, Bayshore Hobbies, and Conspiracy(the location in Hamilton, and the one in Burlington), and I find that neither really have a case of BO. The GW in Mapleview mall used to, but the staff were usually quick to take the culprit aside and mention it to them quietly so not to humiliate said customer. Also, Bayshore Hobbies does not do any gaming in the store. the store is to small, and there is no space for tables. Although the owner does organize a game night once a month at a bar downtown Hamilton where people can bring in board games and play.
I have found the most unpleasent store can be Hobby Kingdom, but it can also be the best store depending on who is in.

I haven't played there but the staff were quite friendly and when I was looking at models they mentioned that they had regular games there, so it might be worth your time to check it out.
And also for the record, I've generally found that the most respectable people at any games store for any hobby tend to be the late-teens/early twenties university students who aren't completely committed to gaming (ie, the ones who tend to have a life outside of the game, so to speak), followed closely by the older, educated hobbyists who generally show up the shirt and tie they were wearing that day. They also tend to be a touch more competitive (not necessarily extremely competitive, WAAC guys, but they generally enjoy the most when both they and their opponents are playing at their best, and if something is giving them repeated trouble, instead of whining about it being OP or trying to get it banned, they adapt to counter it). What type of game they actually play is irrelevant, and I've noticed a roughly equal distribution of well-kept individuals in both tabletop games and CCGs.
Also, as a note to people badmouthing card game players as being poorly kept, to to a MtG PTQ or other competitive event, then look at the players who make it into the top 16. I'm willing to bet that at least 12 of them are well dressed, and that at least 7 of the top 8 will look respectable. I can't speak for other games, and I definitely can't speak for lower levels of competition (while my local FNM is fairly competitive, people treat it as PTQ practice, but FNM's I've gone to at other stores have covered the entire spectrum of player attitudes and types), but my personal experience is that card players, particularly the ones that are actually good, and not just a shark in the kiddie pool, act and keep themselves in a presentable manner.
To be fair, I didn't mean ALL CCG players, just MOST of the ones at our store here. I have spent everyday this week there and will keep going during the days, and because of this, I could point out exactly which kids are the ones (they too have been showing up every single day).

And if the store didnt like it, we would point out how much more we spend than stinky.
At our local GW we tend to handle things the same way, (one friend is quite adamant about pointing out people who seem to have an anathema to water). A little stink, especially in summer on a hot and humid day... okay we can live with that. But, as my friend puts it, if you smell like unwashed butt, then we're going to let you know.
Thankfully, the manager of said GW also has no tolerance for "gamer funk." I honestly cannot fathom leaving the house without a shower, so this behavior literally is completely bewildering to me. Do these people not realize how they smell, or do they think this is socially acceptable?

I've got a partially blocked sinus cavity that leaves me with a very greatly reduced sense of smell. It's something that can be corrected with outpatient surgery, but I have this morbid fear of being cut on. So I've never had it fixed. You have to be pretty bad for me to notice you. But sadly, on occasion I do run into folks who have "issues" bad enough for me to do just that.
Not being able to smell most things was an advantage during the 20 years I worked in prisons as you might imagine.....as well as at the big gaming conventions I've attended.
The gaming community as a whole is partially to blame for this phenomenon in that we accept it. The GUO ones need to be confronted by their peers. It's amazing how much a little public shaming will modfy someone's behavior...that or they get so embarrased that they never return, which works too!

Hygene and neckbeards wearing wizard hats keep me out of the local well-equipped gaming store. That and their complete lack of customer service skills. The store I do frequent is quite clean and professional, but only has two tables. My gf wont even go in the other one anymore.
I shower before work and after when I go out. If I go in after work just to pick something up then Im in a tie, because I work at a high end dealership and I dress up. If I go in later or a day off I am always clean and dressed nicely. Now Im not saying you have to dress up to play with plastic men, but showering two days ago, not shaving for three months with no effort to trim, and wearing a wolf t-shirt and sweatpants is crossing the line. More and more this becomes an at-home hobby rather than a go out and compete hobby for me.

I am generally tolerant of body Oder to a degree mainly because you never know if said individual has an actuall medical problem. I also have a friend who sweats easily and he is aware of it but their are limits to what he can do to contain it. I have no desire to out somebody who can't help it and make them feel like an outcast.
However if I can smell your crotch 3 feet across the table then we have a problem. Also please be aware of your breath, I like chilli dogs and onions and garlic too but I don't want to be smelling what you ate all game. The only weapons I want wielded at me or my army are the imagenary kind.
My last game my op kept burping and decreatly blowinging it across the table at me. To make matters worse the guy actually cut the loudest fart I've ever herd mid game. Straight faced and didn't even register that it had happened. REALLY, we're in public dude you really going to just ripe one out loud in front of a stranger!

Wish I could disagree, but there it is. It doesn't help that there are more card gamers, and they tend to come from a wider variety of social interactivity. Of course, the stotr I work at has poor ventilation, and last FNM was on a hot, muggy day. The whole store was pretty pungent.

"If you really want to know what it was like, to fight in the air in the great War, then go up to someone you have never met and who has never done you the slightest harm and pour a two-gallon tin of petrol over them. Then apply a match, and when they are nicely ablaze, push them from a fifteenth-floor window after first perhaps shooting them a few times in the back with a revolver. And be aware as you are doing these things that ten seconds later someone else will quite probably do them to you. This will exactly reproduce... the substance of First World War aerial combat and will cost your country nothing. I know of a LFGS that has three or four girls that work there...which I guess does wonders for the older boys who try to play it cool and stay clean. Some of them act up thinking it will get them the girl I guess. But the same store used ot have LARPS stop by, for Vampire and that brought in a lot of girls too.
It was the real ld creepy guys that sort of started scarying the girls off, more than the smell and people dressing in wolf shirts and stained sweat pants and burping and farting.

I like to keep clean as well. If I have been working out, running around or just all-round sweating before I plan to go to my FLGS, I'll always make sure to shower. However, every so often there is that one player who doesn't have the courtesy to shower that comes along. I know. Because they're usually bad enough to make me start to gag. I should really call them out on it becuase it takes me everything I have to tolerate it.

I was at Salute! this year in London, at the ExCel centre, which is a pretty big gathering of tabletop gamers - most people understood the point of showers, soap etc, except at one point. I went over to a stall to check what they had and it was thronged with people (they had reduced/cheap stuff in some of the boxes). When I got to the stall the rank, multiplied stench of dirt, sweat & general lack of personal hygiene hit me rather hard - stomach churning stuff. Nasty.
Story one of my bosses likes to tell is of when he was at Warhammer World, in the store, and three children were in front of him (think he said they were in their teens) and one of them had an enormous piece of snot dangling from his nose. Apparently he pulled it out of his nose and, with it connected to a long stream of gooey snot, he put it in his mouth and chewed on it whilst the other two kids kept talking. Bad parenting I suppose.
It does seem to be just a small handful who lack basic knowledge of hygiene or are just so lazy & so bad at looking after their basic bodily needs that the rest of us suffer from the stench & the bad name these people give to the rest of us wargamers.
Rambling post-Long Day At Work post over.

Sometimes it is not people that smell, but their clothes. When clothes are not dried and aired properly they can really smell - when someone lives with that they tend not to be able to tell that their freshly washed clothes don't smell of washing powder, but of damp horribleness. Have to say that the GM's of two of the gaming groups I have been in had houses/clothes that just stank of damp. You can be clean in every way but still stink - it is not always because of bad hygiene.
