So it's not a PSA?

It is but With its own special rules.

even in the FAQ it says "... though they include a few exceptions to the normal shooting rules"

Drestructor is witchfire. Not a normal shooting attack. It is worked out like a normal shooting attack. Not a normal shooting attack. Its still a psychic power, and no where is witchfire allowed to fire overwatch.

Destuctor is a normal shooting attack used in the shooting phase at s 5 assault 1 template.

where is your difference?

We will go Sentence by Sentence.

"A bolt gun is used in the shooting phase."
Normally yes, but that is not the only time it can be used.

" and makes a shooting attack at s4 and rapid fire"
Yep.

"Destuctor is a normal shooting attack used in the shooting phase at s 5 assault 1 template."

This is where you are both wrong and missing a timing.

Destructor is not a Normal Shooting attack, it is a PSA; which is another term for Witchfire Psychic power; it functions like a normal Shooting attack.

Then the Timing: Witchfire's timing is found in the BRB and is "During the Psyker's Shooting phase". Destructor is found in a codex; thus superseding the BRB's Timing and uis just listed as "During the Shooting phase".

So Destructor has a specific restriction that states Shooting phase only(That is the only time that permission ghas been granted to use the power).

You are under some false delusion that shooting attacks can only be used in the Shooting phase. this is incorrect.

The closest rules you will find governing shooting attacks are:

1) Page 12, where the Shooting phase rules allow units containing models armed with ranged weapons may make shooting attacks.
2) Page 21, the Overwatch rules which allow for Shooting attacks to be made.
3) Page 30, where the fallback rules allow for all shooting attacks to be made.
4) Page 50, where under the "type section of weap[on rules it explains which types are "shooting Weapons" and that "Shooting weapons" can only be used to make "Shooting Attacks."

Since Overwatch is a Snap Fire, we must go back to those rules. Last sentence of page 13;

BRB PG 13 wrote:It's important to note that any shooting attack that does not use a Ballistic Skill - such as the Necron Monolith's portal of exile - cannot be 'fired' as a Snap Shot.

Whats the ballistic skill of your psychic attack? Just because its a template based attack does not mean it auto-diverts to the Wall of Death special rules. Since the attack does not have a BS value, per the rules of Snap Fire (which Overwatch is), you are unable to select this shooting attack for your overwatch.

It would use the BS of the firer since its witchfire

Point is that psychic shooting attacks dont have a BS and as such, cannot be snapfired. -IF- the psychic shooting attack stated that you used the model that is firing that shooting attack BS, then yes. You would be able to shoot with that psychic attack. Since no such power exists, it is impossible to snapfire/overwatch with psychic shooting attacks.

I retract that no power exists without BS. Witchfire requires you to roll to hit (thusly, a BS is required). While there is a power with a BS. This Destructor power is not Witchfire. It still may not be fired as a Snapshot.

Also, because I know its going to be brought up next post, or within a few posts. I ask that you show in your errata where it states that the Psychic power "Destructor" is a Witchfire power.

Both Sides of this argument already agree that the BRB Page 69states that Destructor is a witchfire power.

Specific passages are on page 69, starting with the first 2 sentences of the first paragraph detailing what a witchfire is: "Witchfire powers are manifested during the Psyker's shooting phase instead of firing a weapon. Witchfire powers are often referred to as psychic shooting attacks."

Then the Eldar FAQ specifies that Destructor is a PSA(exact quote is in the topic post)

Still, the Eldar FAQ clearly state that Destructor is always on, so it can not follow the normal witchfire rules to manifest in the shooting phase.

Edit: And the FAQ clearly state that these PSA (the ones listed) has specific rules described that set them apart from normal PSA.
I would grant Deny the witch agaist it as a compromise, but sying you dont get to overwatch it is just silly. Nowhere is Destructor ever treated as anything but a normal heavy flamer.

yep they have specific rules.

One of those specific rules is that Destructor is used in the Shooting Phase.

Is overwatch in a Shooting Phase?

Sure you use it in shooting phase.
In overwatch you instead use wall of death, because you got a template weapon.

You only have a template weapon when you are using Destructor.

So in overwatch you do not have a template weapon.
