SkyD wrote:Deathwatch and Eldar work together in Warrior Coven. **edit** Figured I should add, this was because the Ordo Xenos had made a bargain with the Eldar for something, alas I can't remember exactly what and the book is sitting with its other novel at my Ex's.

Eldar and Inquisition worked together on the Ordo Hydra thing, with a human being a somewhat part of the Harlequins. That is however undoubtedly no longer part of 40k though since it had a squat (which I think was removed in later printings), involved the "star child" thing and the Emperor having sons and bringing about the Sensei Emperor thing.

On the above though, the things with Eldrad going ape, is that the one from Fulgrim?

Yes, its from Fulgrim. And Squats are back, look at the abhuman section of the 6th Edition Rulebook.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

'She sat on the corner, gulping the soup down, uncaring of the heat of it. They had grown more watery as of late she noted, but she wasn't about to beggar food from the Imperials or the "Bearers of the Word." Tau, despite their faults at least didn't have a kill policy for her race.'

Can't really blame him then, Fulgrim was carrying a Slaneesh pal with him at the time.

Yeah...except the sword didn't truly start working its magic on the man until after the Eldar started shooting. Fulgrim's mental barriers were 'ruptured' by his newfound hatred of the Eldar. And you don't start shooting in the middle of a peace conference.

Yeah, but Fulgrim bought Slaneesh to the table, so to speak. Given Eldar do their best to avoid him/her, bringing something which although trapped in a sword, was able to corrupt and enslave a world would cause a group of people who have a great distaste/fear of its boss to react badly, as soon as the threat was made clear. If I remember right, the world the peace conference was on, was an Eldar world, perhaps not inhabited at the time, but kept as one of their jewels for future occupation. Like above, the daemon in the sword had already taken over one world, the Eldar aren't going to react well to the idea one of their jewels, a future safe haven, is now under threat from something which can gobble them up, then perhaps spread into the webway and nom on some more Eldar, nom the craftworld, find more webway portals, start nomming on the rest of the Eldar.

Think of it as Eldar want to stay away from the Eye of Terror, its where Slaneesh is, thus its not safe. Any world corrupted by Slaneesh is then another "Eye". Slaneesh is there, we must avoid this world. Move to minimum safe distance. Eldar know they can't last on the Craftworlds forever, one day they will need to settle on worlds to restart the empire. It will be ages after the events on that world with Fulgrim that the Tyranid threat is known, so beyond the system that 40k is in is a physically unsafe place due to it being bugland. Inside the system, the amount of places that are "safe" are getting smaller. Living near humans and other species isn't so bad, sure they have to fight them, but at least none of those species are trying to get into their pants and devour their souls.

Slaanesh is like Kyrptonite to the Eldar. Except instead of stripping them of their powers and weakening them, it steals their souls and torturers them for all eternity. Makes sense that Eldrad would flip out a bit to be perfectly honest.

Right, but what happened next?

1) Eldrad failed to kill Fulgrim (regular timeline) - All Maiden Worlds in the Sector destroyed, an entire Warhost including an ancient Wraithlord destroyed.

2) Eldrad kills Fulgrim (alternate timeline) - Magnus, Horus, and Sanguinius march on Ulthwe. Ultimately, all the Craftworlds become involved, and so would all the legions and the Emperor himself, resulting in the complete destruction of the Eldar.

For a supposed master of precognition, the idiot couldn't see how whether or nor he succeeded, if he went medieval the Eldar would lose.

And if Fulgrim wasn't carrying that blade? A Primarch and a majority of his Legion no longer side with Horus, Istvaan would have been a loss for the Traitors, the Heresy ends before it begins.

Much like the Thousand Sons, Eldar can still be manipulated to see limited paths, only one being is able to see it all and he only speaks truth with one mouth. Eldar can't control the future but they do attempt to nudge things towards a more favourable outcome.
It could even be that like the Thousand Sons to Tzeentch, the Emperor's Children were being led towards their eventual path, Tzeentch pulls the strings to lead the Children to the blade, the Blade Daemon and Slaneesh pull the strings towards the Eldar. Slaneesh gains souls, plus gets to add some further distrust in the Eldar/Imperium relations.

That's not the point...the point is that you don't march into a peace conference and start shooting.

Carrying that sword was wrong. Its like going to a Church with Satan in tow. The Pastor's gonna come at ya with the holy water.

Its not like Fulgrim was unaware that the thing wasn't exactly normal. He shows up to a peace meeting with a WMD in tow, this was seen as an act of aggression. If Fulgrim proudly carries a symbol of the great enemy, he is in cahoots with the great enemy, he has not come in peace, he has come with destruction in mind. Eldrad makes a move.

Right...and if Eldrad had killed Fulgrim, then what? Would he stand and fight as Ulthwe is burned to ashes by the Thousand Sons, Sons of Horus, and Blood Angels? Would he pit Ulthwe and ultimately all the Craftworlds against the Imperium? This was the Great Crusade, the Imperium then is at least ten times as strong as it is now. You don't just walk into a peace conference and start shooting. Fulgrim was still fighting the sword's influence, and it wasn't until Eldrad started dicking around that the sword began to truly control the man.

Thats assuming he would kill him, nothing says he wouldn't recognise during the fight that the sword didn't have full control yet. Or that he recognised his folly later on.

The Emperor and Magnus both knew of the Warp Gods, we can assume both would have an inkling that the sword carried something that was dangerous to the Imperium. Had Fulgrim died and either one been made aware of the blade, it could well be the Wolves would be sent for the Children, finding the blade would lead to the discovery that the Gene-seed was tampered with, thus the Children were no longer a viable legion.

But I'll leave it at that, its not adding to the topic at hand. Apologies to OP and to anyone I have caused offence to.
