Thanks for the links gents.

Damn I wish the coverage was more like last years nova. Looks exciting stuff going into sixth and last round(?) if Russia can draw with the Germans and we beat France then England take it...

You've got to give the Tom Daley over exuberance some context though; his Dad who died of cancer last year devoted his life to Tom and his sport, I think it was more an outpouring of emotion than 'yay I'm third best in world' although that is still a significant achievement.

Agree regarding the football!

Yes he was on one of the chicago teams. I cannot remember their name at the moment. But have played them both years at the ATC. Fun group to play.

Top 5 and/or top 20% not impressive? What does it take to impress you? I wonder if it was impressive to the other 19 teams that finished below them?

Ah but you know the Germans.. they arent happy unless they are number one. Professionals they are.

Not like us plucky Brits, who lose better than absolutely anyone, and PARTY when we merely suck a little bit!

Take for example the INSANE REVELRY when we come third.

If you think the Germans are not happy unless they are not number one you have not met the Polish Team lol.

@Mannahein yeah the swiss team is pretty good but from what I understand though this year some of the guys that live in germany on the boarder with Switzerland in the pass have played for the Swiss team and this year they were
trying for all swiss and recruiting from the French portion this year. Most of the guys come Zurich and have not in the past had to many French Swiss.

@Mannahein- if you like the Swedes(who does not ) you would also really like the French Team. Great bunch of guys although they have one tactic that tends to throw people off and that is they only want to use 1 set of dice for the whole game. This actually
can throw people off and I find it kind of funny lol. I like their qualification system though. They hold qualifying tournaments as teams and the winner goes to the ETC not individuals qualifying for a team. My Swiss team beat them the year before in one of the team tourneys
but we got snowed in and could not make it this year.

@Mannahein- yes it was nice having the tourney Montereaux but way to expensive!!! Even though the place in Poland is out of the way I am sure they are liking the cost
Look forward to seeing you in the US at some tournaments. Be nice to me I am still a noobie on 6th!!

@Sabote- Thanks for the info and the kind words. It's a fascinating event; hopefully one of these days we can have serious coverage of it and follow along through the weekend.

I wish he hadn't had to withdraw from the Adepticon Championship finals; would have been really cool to see his run at the title.

If by withdraw you mean get beat

Thanks for the correction. I misremembered; Ricky Johnson was the Ork player who qualified for the Adepticon Championship finals this year, but is such a loyal teammate that he withdrew so as not to leave his WHFB team tournament partner in the lurch on Sunday.

Update: Dan Heelan of HeelanHammer has tweeted that England has taken the 40k event. For that to be so, they would have to have beaten France in the final round, while Germany and Russia would need to have Drawn to allow England to leapfrog over them both. Awesome showing if so. Still awaiting confirmation from the main site showing the standings, but that site has confirmed England's victory over Russia, and says the Germans were fighting for their lives, with a few results still to arrive.

I played at Battlegrounds in MA; I kind of alternate between that store and Battle Standard, for my two-hour-drive tournaments. It was also my last chance to get a game and hang out with another bud who's moving away for law school.

Well, we'll have to coordinate around the next tournament at Tommy's. Or at Battleground. Or you could drive up to NH; there's a 1250 tournament and customer appreciation barbeque at my FLGS next Saturday. If you're able to come North, there's a chance a mere 6 days away!

It was not a surprise.

Loosing Ben was a big hit to the team, and the problems with the team selection process due to the size of the US and the difficulty in finding players willing to travel to Europe for a game of 40k..

If you ever listened to the 40k UK podcast you could hear about how serious the UK team was about finding the best players and getting them prepared for the ETC tournament and that work paid off.

Congratulations to the England team for a job well done!

Poland snagged the title again. Austria surprising second and England take third, also snatching best overall cross-system performance and taking home the etc shield for this year!

Grats to the UK for finally grabbing that most prestigious of 40K prices. And to Tom Daley for the bronze in synchronized swimming for men

Wales and Ireland also seemed to have picked up their game a notch.

The event was amazing I was hanging around the 40k tent quite a bit and managed to grab some interviews with the American 40k team who were awesome. I'll be uploading the footage tomorrow once it's all edited.
Germany did really well also nice chaps!

Glad the Aussies won best sportsmanship although it was unclear as to how that was decided. Both Fantasy and 40k captains said that they weren't approached to vote for it which is odd, but either way the Australians seemed really friendly.

Some awesome looking armies I came across- I post pictures if anyone's interested?

It seems looking at the score sheet game 4 earned France 2 penalties and Italy being the more major one of a red card and 20-0 to England due to a moving of the model to achieve line of sight.

Video will be up tonight I'll post it on here for coverage of the entire event.

For WFB i belive the organisers picked, for 40k each team was supposed to put a vote in and a guy during the last game was going around asking the captains for their votes, at least thats how we at Team Scotland placed our vote.

Yeah after the last round ended I went to the 40k head organiser/host and asked. He said there was going to be no sportsmanship award. A little woo-haa later and Tom (Belgian Capt and 40k Chairman) put his foot down and got one of the refs to go round and ask all the 40k captains for their teams choice. Australia got a vote from all 6 of their opponents (us Scots included) so won by a landslide (I think Ireland were next with 3 votes).

Though unfortunately the same can't be said for WFB, after the kick off re: 40K I get in impression that the refs and host organisers just picked the WFB most sporting team themselves. Not saying that Woody & Co don't deserve it, but still I think the WFB captains would have preferred to have a choice.
