Alan Bajramovic, Team USA member for the European Team Championship and Wargamscon winner this past year, has won the ESC - the singles event held before the ETC. I wasn't there, but I'm guessing he used the same Horde Orks list he has terrorized the Chicagoland area with for the last few years.
Congratulations Alan.

Well done to him, I think really your guys have a better chance as you appear to have so much more competitive gaming available.

Rodgers, we have some great players, but a lot of the other countries are really competitive too. Poland, for example, has a GT-style event just about every weekend.
Congrats to Alan!

It's not "European Team Championship" is in "Championship for European Teams"
It is: "Team Championship held in Europe"
I don't think the Americans will do particularly good at the ETC...

The US has placed in the top 5 both years they've attended, right? Seems pretty good to me.
This year so far they've beaten Norway and lost to Poland, who are the defending champs and historically one of the strongest teams.

Thanks for the correction. You're right; Poland were the 2010 champs, and Germany took it last year. Congrats! Have you played on the team? I haven't earned a slot yet, but have played with several of the guys on the US team, and have met most of them.
Clearly the Germany/Poland round 3 matchup tomorrow is the clash of the titans! I can't wait to see the result, and see how the rest of the field develops over the day.
The US team tied with Sweden for 4th in their first year of competition, which I think has to be considered a pretty darn impressive achievement by anyone's lights. I think the European players who've come over here can tell you that the metagame (game length, terrain setup) is substantially different and requires some adjustment, even leaving aside all the strategies to do with pairings. The US took 3rd last year, improving on their first result. The only team they lost to last year were the (overall champion) Germans. The Swedes (who were the only team to beat the Germans last year) also managed a Draw against the US. Going by those results it appears that the US are one of the top teams, despite having much less experience at the event than the other top contenders.
Do you really think those are results worth sneering at, or are you here trash-talking for fun? Or is it just a language issue, and I've misunderstood you?

All nice guys, all fun games.
btw, GER just destroyed POL

Hey you have played me and I was on Team Wales that finished 7
Was asked to play with the Swiss this year but the tournament was to close to my vacation and to be honest was not that thrilled to go to Poland. I like poland but it is being held in the middle of nowhere.
I played Alan at the ATC this year as defending Eldar. Almost pulled a draw if the game went 6. Was a great game.
I have played the Team France guys alot. I run into them at most my tournaments. I think I am 50/50 against most of them. Really nice guys.

I have not played or read much of 6th.

Considering all the places you could actually fly into Poland and still have a tournament. Yes.
Berlin is still 2 hours away. So you would have to either rent a car and/or take a train or bus.... So yes I do consider that in the middle of nowhere when the alternative could have been much easier.
By the way I would put the location of the ATC Chattanooga TN in the same category as in the middle of nowhere and it has an airport.

Good point! Hey, Brian! Yeah, you are another example of the caliber of player I've seen involved in this. Really makes me interested in a game against one of the Germans, Poles, or French.
sabote wrote:Was asked to play with the Swiss this year but the tournament was to close to my vacation and to be honest was not that thrilled to go to Poland. I like poland but it is being held in the middle of nowhere.
Yeah, I guess some of the sites have been pretty darn rustic. OTOH I heard Switzerland last year was amazing.
sabote wrote:I played Alan at the ATC this year as defending Eldar. Almost pulled a draw if the game went 6. Was a great game.
Yeah, Alan seems to be a killer. He's been on a streak.
sabote wrote:I have played the Team France guys alot. I run into them at most my tournaments. I think I am 50/50 against most of them. Really nice guys.
And they're on pace right now to get on the podium, depending on round 6. Germany and Russia at the top, England also on the top 2 tables. Nice work by England to improve position the way they have. US lost a second round to Italy this morning.

It's a big change. I wonder if part of the US team's showing is having largely already started playing a lot of 6th.

England in good shape going into the last round, hope they hold it together and get a podium place for the first time. Obviously it's cos I couldn't make it this year
The playing 6th is an interesting point. I knew a few of the England team haven't even looked at 6th ed but then the other half have been running 6th ed 40k tournaments in the last month so a bit of a mix.

If by withdraw you mean get beat
Been playing with Alan for a long time, it is great to see him doing this well.
