The last version was very clunky and not worth it.

Or, you know, just download battlescribe.
Y'know normally I don't like to act out of spite but this is a situation where spite and functionality sync up. Battlescribe here I come.

Is this the part where I'm supposed to get all indignant? Because I just can't feel it. Remember back when AB sent a C&D to PP? Good times.

This old news that was debunked a while back by armybuilder itself.

Wrong.

AB40k Maintainers wrote:The latest file version is 1.02 will only be available for short time via the auto-update function within Army Builder. It will not be available for download from this site. It will not be available via email requests from any AB40K maintainer; do NOT bother to ask, it will not happen, you will not get it.

As you can imagine by the above statements, there will be no further updates to this project. There will be no further work done on the files, nor will there be any conversation here on this website on updating the files or help in understanding or helping to "fix" issues that remain in the files as of now, or anytime in the future. Indeed, I do not expect to see a website here much longer given this.

On behalf of both myself and the maintainers of the AB40K files, of the present and the past, I sincerely thank you for your support throughout the many years that this project has endured.

What am I missing. The posts notated in the OP's are from June. Nothing current. Armybuilder itself posted on here the last time. Think I will wait for them to do so again.

Battlescribe is nowhere near as good a program as army builder. Also, what's to stop GW from shutting them down as well. Also, I've spent about 15-20 minutes trying to find data files for the damn program on more than one occasion and can't even turn up anything.

Sadly, this sort of thing would stand up even remotely in court, but GW knows your average joe that's just doing this for the community isn't going to fight it. I'm pretty hot-headed so I'd probably just tell GW to get on their knees if they tried to pull something like this with me.

Ahh, GW, proud subscriber to the PT Barnum School of Consumer Relations.

Most of my friends here use ArmyBuilder. It's a very nice rool: you can sit down and quickly put several lists and variations into being within 10 minutes. I almost bought it myself, but had already caught wind of the first overtures of this from a friend and decided to play it safe.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

What, aside from battlescribe themselves not hosting the army list files? GW went after the AB 40k team, not AB themselves. With battlescribes lists being entirely community driven, theyre not in this situation at all.

I agree about finding a repository though. It required arcane arts for me to find one that worked. Now that I found a good one, battlescribe is perfect, and even mobile. I don't even have to carry printed lists from home.

OK, here is the plan.

6th ed is *meh* at best. So we all sell our armies to new suckers as they come into the game store.

We keep the store owner happy by promising to and actually spend the money from our sales on other game systems.

Local store owner still makes money while GW starves.[/plotting rant]

Seriously though, I think GW is doing more damage here than they realize. A lot of new customers get drawn into the game by walking into a game store on a tourney day. This move, when combined with the overall move away from any semblance of competition in the game may just convince TO's to stop wasting the time and effort.

IMO, 40K is turning into an elitist hobby with no real game behind it. Cinematic and Narrative is not a game, it is a movie and/or a book. And there are much better sources for both than what GW publishes.

Piracy of their software dropped to nil when they hit AB3, I haven't found a cracked copy of that anywhere - so that's about the past 6 years or so.

so yeah, they should be greatful because this..maintains the status quo, piracy-wise?

Wonder if AB does refunds. I just renewed my license last weekend so if this is true I'll be pursuing that option....

Yup I was just starting to think GW was doing some stuff right with the news rules/model set. Now this pile of steaming, stinking, warmed over nurgle poop. I will never buy builder software from GW now. I might have if it was a better product than there competition but to kick AB is just wrong on many levels.

Just forgot what I was going to say.

Really not surprised by this, nor do I hold any malice towards GW or feel any refund should be given on the part of AB. AB handles many, many systems, and your sub gives you access to all of them, not an exclusive to GW files nor a deal to promise sole access for one game. GW has never approved of 3rd party retailers doing anything with their IP, and I imagine this hurts them... not at all. I do think that they most likely are following trend with PP and making their own army builder software for iphone/ipad, and if they are it can only be an improvement over the last folly of a program they tried to sell.

I will admit, it sucks, but it's not a surprise.

Poor. What would have been wrong with GW just buying AB's GW game builders or even discussing licensing with them?

1. Nothing by GW currently exists to replace this.
2. When/if it does, it will cost the earth.
3. When/if it does, it will be army specific and each other army you want to add (allies etc) will cost extra.
4. It will be, given GWs other forays into 'computer stuff', clunky and full of errors.

How dare GW insist only they make money on their products like every other company that has ever existed. How nazi-fascist-terrorist of them?

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

This pisses me off. No matter how hard GW tries to force the issue people aren't going to buy ever damn codex their is to see other people's options. If codexes were like $10 per digital copy then maybe an impulse buy of the new dex will happen, but at the current prices it will not happen no matter how much you try to keep the info hidden.

God I effing despise them sometimes...

I don't see Ford attacking any Ford enthusist sites out there. I don't see Blizzard C&D sites that host character builders.

Hopefully the removal of their FB comments and the re-wording of the post on the site to remove the "we're not doing anything ever again" portion points to this being a situation still in flux.
