your tips have really helped guys! My final question is can someone give me a list of armies from cheapest to most expensive? I'm starting to narrow the armies down now

Now these are 2000 point lists

Grey Knights competitive-150$ USD
Space Marines of most flavors-300-400 USD
Khorne Daemons-350$
Necrons, eldar, Dark Eldar, CSM, and orks unknown
Imperial guard about 750$

DA 4000 points W/L/D 6e 3/2/0
IG 1500 points W/L/D 6e 0/2/0
And 100% Primed!

Orks can be cheap if you know the tricks of the trade and are a good hand at modeling. I'm a stingy bastard, so in don't buy vehicles, ever. I make them all from spru and cardboard. And i'm quite happy with them. After that, you can make basicly any ork unit with a box of boyz (or nobz) and greenstuff. The nobz box is good value, and boyz can be found in large amounts for cheap on ebay.

I would look over why you want those armies and see if you can narrow it down a bit.

Once you narrow them down( or decide you can't) I would buy the codexes and read through them. See if that helps narrow them down some more. Then look up tactics for any remaining armies.

If after all this, you still have more than one army you want, buy small forces of those armies( like an HQ, two troops and one additional unit) and use them as allies with your current force or ally with each other. From there, you should be able to narrow it down by what you like most on the table and grow those armies(or army) slowly over time.

-$180+ on codices

-At least $100 (each) on 'small forces' for each army he's still leaning towards.

and...using ALLIES?!?!

For shame, kind sir.

Games Workshop Models...hundreds of dollars
ForgeWorld Masterpieces...Thousands of dollars
Bankruptcy...Priceless

Can't help it mate. While not in a game store, I work retail. Sometimes you just can't turn off the Salesman.
