The Hydra Flakk cannon. Vastly cheaper, has more longevity and/or more mobility (and/or all of the above) than any other unit that can field that amount of firepower and as a bonus, it shreds flyers more than double their points cost... if you're an IG player and don't want at least one, you're an idiot.

I've got to second Tyranid carnifexes. I also think the Tyrannofex, and Parasite of Mortrex are highly underrated.

The Hydra is hardly underrated. I don't know a single Guard player who doesn't agree they're an absolute bargain, and didn't use them even before flyers were added.

SM: The Thunderfire cannon. 100 pts for a Heavy 4, blast gun with 3 ammo types. With the new Arty rules the thing can be pretty tough against small arms fire. Stick them in cover for a cover save and the can be brutal. Can glance light armor to death and will absolutely shred foot slogging units. Also, free Techmarine with servo-harness to use if the cannon goes boom.

I'm gonna toss in the humble Mandrake from the Dark Eldar codex.

I have always been a fan of their look, style and fluff, but they always got the short stick out of usability. But I think that they are a pretty decent choice, if properly supported. A squad with a pain token (from a haem or Cronos) can put out a pretty frightening amount of firepower that cuts down anything short of a 3+ save in droves.

They also are remarkably durable with support, even in bad conditions. A 5++ with FNP isn't that bad, and if they are in cover, they become very hard to shoot up.

While I don't play them so much anymore (Played them through 4th and most of 5th) these were on of the most under rated choices and I find still are.

Kroot.

I love Kroot and they were always under-estimated by my opponents, people always assumed they'd do very little or would only shoot at them if there was nothing else, after a while they learned.... especially the few times I released the kroot mercs list

CSM with MoS. It's a cheap upgrade, but hitting first against most things can be huge, particularly against other marine armies. A lord with a daemon weapon that gives you d6 extra attacks that inflict instant death AND you strike first? Yes please. Lash of Submission? I'll take that. Your power sword wielding champion taking down their champion with a precision strike before they get to attack? Any time.

For Eldar, I would have to go with Pathfinders. They make termies look stupid, can deal with rhinos, and can pin enemy squads. Put them in some ruins, and you still get your 2+ cover save. The only downsides are their cost (which with Eldar is inevitable), and if they get into close combat, in which case they're a write off.

Orks, I would say is the Warbuggy. They're cheap and the twin-linked big shootas mulch infantry.

40k Armies:
Alaitoc 9300 points
Chaos 15000 points
Speed Freeks 3850 points

WHFB Armies:
Lizardmen 1000 points

I would say something for Necrons but to be honest the whole codex is just solid (minus flayed ones....) The only underated unit i would say is Destroyers and Heavy Destroyers. Perfered enemy everything! with St 5 Ap3 and Str9 AP2 weapons tear through anything!

As for Blood Angels i would have to go with Sanguinary Guard, yes they can't kill terminators anymore but against anything that isnt a tank or 2+ these guys will rape face, specially with a banner, a couple fists, and death masks of course!

For regular vanilla marines i would actually go with assault marines, yes they arnt good for anything really except counter attacking, keep them behind a building, wait for the enemy to get close, slap a few flamerson the unit and pounce on assaulting infantry units

For Dark Eldar i would go with scourges, yes they are pricy but deepstriking with 2 heat lances or haywire blasters can ruin any tanks day, or for fun take 2 splinter cannons and watch as you unload 32 poisen 4+ shots on an unsuspecting foe

And finally for Chaos Marines i would go with normal CSM squads, they are cheap marines that can take 2 assault weapons, have a close combat weapon aswell as a bolter and pistol, and you can make them whatever mark you wish

Yeah, I don't know if something that's so good that only an idiot would leave home without is UNDER rated.

Maybe it's just where I'm from, but there isn't a single IG player that has one in their army atm- they'd prefer to run Mech, foot, or Air guard. I'm still saving pennies, I'm dying to get one. As valuable as they are though- especially in 6th ed., I think players find a whole lot of excuses not to field them.

To be fair air guard wouldn't need them since Vendettas have all the Skyfire you'd need. But air guard can go soak their heads in vinegar

I think Big Gunz especially Zzap Gunz are underrated. As are Warphead Weirdboyz especially now that they can cast autohit powers while riding around in a vehicle moving flat out.

Hear, hear. People at my FLGS laughed at my big guns and my weirdboy...then the Zzaps started knocking out Terminators left and right. AP 2 with a fairly good chance of being at least S5 or 6 is pretty deadly.

Then the numerous times when my Weirdboy deep-strikes 30 shootas right next to something...ahh, good times.

Weapons that automatically hit still automatically hit if being snap fired. The only stipulation I can see is that they may not be fired at zooming flyers or swooping MCs.

Still you have a good chance to throw out a S10 AP2 Melta shot or S6 AP3 blast that auto hit. I like it. I want to run 4 Warphead Weirdboyz at 2k.

33/36 chance of getting a s4+ AP2 shot, 26/36 of getting a S6+ AP2 shot.

They're not great for killing tanks, but they will punch through MEQs and TEQs at an alarmingly efficient rate. 270 pts for 9 BS3 S6 nearly always at least s4 AP 36" range shots? Yes, I WILL take that deal.

Gets even nastier with double force org . Especially if you take Ammo Runts and save them for rerolls when you luck out and get s9+ rolls.

My Wolves:

Lone Mother ****ing Wolves. Why are they lonely? No friends you say?

BRING THREE!

The worst headache ever for my opponent and with 5/6 of the missions disregarding their down fall, screw scouts, dreads, and Wolf Guard... bring the 85pnt beast in TDA/SS/CF and march his happy ass towards an objective. Oh, and if they are meched up on it and not a blob squad? Even more hilarity ensues!

These little buggers eat lead for breakfast and get a crisp tan off lascannons. They take the heat off my Grey Hunters and are more than adequate pressure to keep guns away from my Long Fangs. They act as great tactical defense and I secured a solid victory in a tourney against a BA opponent because he made the wrong move of A) swapping Mephy's powers and B) going toe to toe with a Lone Wolf.

Same tourney, one Lone Wolf held up a bloodthirster for four game turns while I systematically culled the rest of the herd.

Lone. Wolves. Your best friends!

Necrons:

Triarch Stalkers. It's all about flyers and wraiths and scarabs and etc. etc. etc. No, bring me some Tesla Immortals, Warriors, Ghost Arks... and then some Triarch Stalkers! Bring that 36" gun and then aim it at troops, not mech. Watch as the opponent goes "lol, newb" and then proceed to shred his stuff.

Thanks to a Triarch Stalker, I shot into a full squad of Shootas with ten tesla immortals... six 6s(!) and 4 hits all said and done. Needless to say, I knocked them out of charge range!

When I get enough warriors, I'll run a necron slogging list with Immortals, Warriors, Ghost arks for repairs, and Stalkers. So much fun!

I don't know one SW player that underrates their Grey Hunters.

It's well known we have the best basic Space Marine troop (arguable with BA Assault Marines) in the game, currently.
