As others said a guy who says "I will only play A, B, C, D, and E requirements" is someone not worth playing against. Glad you thumped him, hopefully he will start playing some ACTUAL 40k games.

Sometimes its all state of mind, if you look at it from one angle its just a different game. So he likes playing small killpoint slugfests? Look at it as a challenge and take it up with him! If you want to play the actual game- play with someone else, or alternate if you need to compromise.

Just because somebody wants to modify the rules, doesn't mean it can't be fun- tournament games change the book objectives all the time for custom scenarios and balance. You'll just have to build an army suited to the new rules- or view it as a good challenge for your own tac tournie list.

One of the reasons 40k is so fun is because its easy to change the scenario or mission objectives to taste. So his friend doesn't like objectives (clearly he doesn't play eldar- I love me lots of scattered objectives!) But that doesn't mean its impossible to have fun playing him.

EDIT: also congrats op for winning! Glad to hear he was a good sport about it! I suspected termies with thss would give him a pounding (lol pun). It was smart to go deathwing!

While I'll agree that's great that he enjoys playing that way, it's still unfortunate to find people who will play different styles, and the way it sounds he only played that way as to have an advantage in pounding faces. No one likes a bully

This is actually his main army and he takes lots of wraithlords with the Avatar in a 1k list. I do know that his Eldar has never failed to lose due to always playing to the death. I have watched every single game he played with Eldar and his list is pretty sick.

I don't know why you accept not to play by the rules but btw....

Deathwing will easily rape him....

Belial 130
DW squad with CML 235
DW squad with CML 235
DW squad with CML 235

Landspeederm with Typhoon ML 75
Landspeeder with Typhoon ML 75

Start with LS in play , possibly in cover, and 1 Termie squad

Deathwing assault on the side of his BW and flank maneuver by the LS... 10 Missile launcher shots... Profit...

And sincerely Hammernators should be able to rape his nobz... Challenge the warboss with Belial... probably the Ork will crush him but you will save the hammernators that should be able to kill the meganobz.

Hurr! Ogryn Bone 'Ead!

wraith lords and an avatar at 1k points and never lost? sounds like you don't have any DE players in your group.

But in agreement with what has been said a lot If he only ever brings the same army and never changes it because it wins means he really doesn't like the game just like to win. I've known a lot of these kinds of players and they are all the same. Sadly most of the time there is no way to get them to stop doing it.

You can try and do some neat things like organize an event at your store where people have to bring certain types of armys (doesn't work if most your group is new and doesn't have the models) Or you could do a narrated campaign, This isn't a big one with lots of record keeping, just where you write a little one paragraph back story to each fight of what people are supposed to do, maybe put one or two restrictions on lists and objectives, and let it play out over a month or so. If you can get the enthusiasm from your others at the store your can guilt him into doing it.

Or if you really don't like the guy, maybe don't mind getting into a fight. challenge him to a game let him go first, get all his stuff setup then resign without taking your stuff out of your cases. It's a good way to get punched but hey He's basicly done the same thing to you.

If he refuses to play any thing other then to the death his 20-0 record isn't really 20-0 then.
