yeah, sadly Abbadon ain't all that any more. Back in 2nd/3rd/4th ed he was much more successful, what with Drach'nyen just auto-wounding with every hit, and ignoring armour.

Looking forward to the new 'Dex though!

Run a whole lot of wfrp and other rpg's, play The Woods and Kill Team, gather and look mournfully at imperial guard knowing I'll never finish enough to use them on the tabletop

All the other Daemon Weapons are AP2. The FAQ says so.

The FAQ says nothing about Drach'nyen other than about the number of attacks it gets. Drach'nyen is still AP3.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

From the Codex Entry Drach'nyen is a Daemon Weapon which doubles his Strength as opposed to adding 1. So it uses the profile for a Daemon Weapon of someone with no mark (as that is the one which has +1 Strength and for Drach'nyen to replace the +1 Strength it must be using the profile of that weapon) and is therefore AP2.

4inv in CC actually. That being said against Aba it is basically 50 50. The reson Abadon is a bit above is he can rock more normal troops then Swarmy can per turn.

But in a one-on-one fight between Swarmlord and Abbadon, I put my money on Swarmlord all day long. Swarmlord also forces enemies to reroll successful invul saves. I agree that Abbadon is more consistent in his killing of groups of enemies but with the changes to Psyker powers, Swarmlord can be way more powerful and versatile than Abbadon.

Notice I bolded and underlined "can" because I understand getting those useful psyker powers is only a chance. I wanted to get my Swarmlord Gate of the Infinite so I ended up rolling 4 times on Telekinesis and got everything but Gate and Vortex of doom.

Captain Lysander might be OK. With his inevitable bodyguard of Terminators. (Though they'd go at it bad-ass and challenge like a pro; it would come down to more wounds vs. better Invulnerable save).

I remember in an apocalypse game he deepstruck down with 5-10 terminators (Abaddon) and ran up with 10 Warlocks and Eldrad, I had 7 Destructors that wiped out the Terminators, Assaulted him and Eldrad and Abaddon ended up killing eachother the same round of combat. It was kind of sad to see both army leaders die like that, but kind of epic all the same.

If Abbadon's demon weapon is AP2 now I wouldn't count on it anymore

Fortunately Papa smurf has useful abilities for the rest of the army unlike Abbadon iirc

If I'm feeling like being a jerk:

Play as either Grey Knights or Space Wolves.
Take a Brotherhood champion or Lukas the Trickster.
Get into base contact with him/challenge him.
Put on my best troll face as my opponent laughs at my challenge.
Say nothing but nod sagely as I point to the codex entry detailing the "removed from play" bit after my IC dies.

Alternatively every time I've played against my local CSM player who uses Abaddon I just shoot him until he falls over or ignore him.

You are close to a truth. An IG blob with prescience and shooting twice or thrice will it very hard for him if Abbaddon is hanging out with toughness 4 models.
In cc against the unit I think I would give it to the IG blob but the idea of that makes my head hurt with sheer awesomeness.

Comeon, we've all rolled 4 ones before. I think I rolled 4 ones before when I charged a unit with Captain Lysander, actually ... always disappointing.

One on one Calgar always wins due to his AP 2 Storm Bolter. Even if they just walk straight towards each other and then simultaneously get the charge, as otherwise it comes down to charging.

This would be true, only if Abbadon was a chaos lord without a mark. But he is neither a lord, nor is he without a mark. He has his own special mark that does not have a demon weapon associated with it. So Abbadon is, silly as it seems, actually AP 3. The AP 2 demon weapon listed in the Chaos Space Marine FAQ is specifically for a lord with no mark.
Here's the entry
Page 93 – Daemon Weapons, Daemon Weapon (Lords with no
Mark of Chaos).
Replace the last sentence with the following profile:
Range S AP Type
- +1 2 Melee, Daemon
Weapon,Two-handed
