Have to admit, running a massive 10 Ogryn strong unit with a couple of primaris pyskers rolling on biomancy would be hilarious.

T6 Ogryn with it will not die, Feel no pain, and relentless? My god that would be awesome to watch.

Yes it's horribly priced, but you can't tell me it wouldn't be worth it to see the look on your opponent's face if you got lucky on that table

Hurr! Ogryn Bone 'Ead!

Ogryns are a good tarpit unit, something I think hasn't really been addressed. Charge them into any kind of S3 infantry (other guard, small units of orks, tau, gaunts, etc.) and they're wounding you on 6s.

They would have shot big big holes through anything T3 (as most S3 units will have) and mushed the remainder long before they would be tar-pitted.

I like the idea of a Primarus to lead them, LD9 stubborn is virtually as good as LD10 stubborn with the added bonus of throwing the odd ability about.

Never had the need to really learn the Psychic rules before, they've always just been something that attacks my guardsmen - this is exciting!

Uriah Jacobus + Some Ogryn = LAWLCITY

They don't get the reroll on the charge, but +1 Attack, FNP, and stubborn is a hell of alot of fun....

So I thought that I would reinvigorate this thread with some further experience that may help prospective Ogryn users.

My most recent use of a 4 Ogryn squad at 1000 points vs BA. This was used along side 2x 21 powerblobs, plasma/Las CCS and a vanilla LRBT.

I wanted to use them as a unit to draw fire while my powerblobs and PCSs advanced on objectives. They were to do this by advancing through cover at my opponents "Castle" (a two storey ruin loaded out with a tactical squad, Hvy Plasma Devs and Librarian.

I wasn't sure about this approach but I literally had pick a list at random before the game and though what the heck.

I Intially failed to draw the plasma fire I expected but did draw the attention of a misdirected drop pod loaded with a Sternguard squad. A turn of Dragonbolts (2+ to wound - that hurt!) and melta later my Ogryns were down to 2, In spite of cover.

So my initial worries about having a death star unit (160 odd points in IG counts as a Ds to me ) had drawn the attention of my opponents DS and got rather badly mauled. Fortunately they passed their LD roll and slammed into one of the Sternguard combat squads in the hope of tarpitting it while a powerblob moved in to countercharge. Rippers did nothing but he pulled down a marine who held. The next turn this melee drew in the other combat squad and survived another round dragging down most of the initial combat squad.

In my turn the powerblob made it in to combat and wiped out the marines just as the killed the last Ogryn.

Being completely unaware of other armies points values I hadnt realised that the Sternguard unit was over 300 points which represented pretty a pretty good return to me.

I was worried about the low LD but only facing one test helped. True against a more CC orientated unit with higher strength kit the outcome may have been differant but the won or drew every combat even at half strength.

Addressing the issue of whether the points would have been better spent else where, the obvious alternative would have been a second LRBT. I'm a big fan of LRBT opponents hate them normally and they cry when they are there in quantity. In this battle the one I had killed one tactical marine, my usually deadly scatter diced whiffed nearly every time.

So I have come out of another battle with good things to say about Ogryns. A slight downward points adjustment and/or a cheaper way of increasing their LD would make Ogryns a must have for me. This experiment will continue...

It was funny seeing the look on my opponents face when I charged my ogryns into his scarabs. The scarabs didn't last too long.

So....what would happen if you took 3 units of Ogryn?

I'm thinking 2 units of 4 (for a Primaris and a Jacobus) along with a 3rd unit of 5, all in their own Chimeras. Add a demolisher to that to run with the group, add two Platoons with lascannons for holding the backfield and fire suppression...

What a fun list that would be

Feth, you fellers must play huge games that take hours!

I still prefer 1000-1500 points games which limits the use of Ogryns (kinda).

1500 points. It's not a competitive list by any means, but it would be amusing.

HQ: Lord Commissar
Chimera
Primaris Psyker (just discovered IQ can't take SoB allies. ??)

205 points

Elite: Ogryn Squad (3 ogryn + bonehead)
Chimera (Psyker goes in here)

Ogryn Squad (3 Ogryn + bonehead)
(Lord Commissar and his chimera go here)

Ogryn Squad (4 Ogryn + bonehead)
Chimera

660 Points

Troops:

Platoon
Plasma guns x3
Lascannons x3

Platoon
Plasma guns x3
Lascannons x3

470 Points

Heavy Support

Demolisher

(see codex, nekkid Demolisher. I'd rather not get in trouble for posting points )

Total: 1500 points.

I think it'd be a total hoot to play with all those ogryn and demolisher trying to crash into the enemy lines.

If you wanted to play around a bit, give up a platoon for a vet/melta squad in a chimera and then add Chimera's to the other Platoon squad for 7 chimeras and a demolisher on the table.
