Basically the Daemon Primarchs are busy being Daemons.

Magnus is brooding in his tower waiting for Arhiman to fix his gigantic goof.

Fulgrim is have too much of a party on his planet to leave.

Mortarian is likewise just chilling on his planet.

The only Traitor Primarchs doing anything is Angron and Alpharius/Omegon.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Actually in the new Chaos Marines codex, both Mortarian and fething Perturabo get off their asses and do something.

Perturabo infects the machinery of an entire Forge World and cleanses it of life by invoking Nurgle, Mortarian corrupts an entire Ork Warband, and proceeds to romp some Imperial worlds with it.

Chaos Gods can whisk away a follower's power as they see fit. If one of their Daemon Prince minions ever attempted a coup, he'd immediately lose his Daemon Princedom. Then he's back to a regular Primarch. Though regular Primarchs are extremely powerful, they have little influence in the warp. I couldn't imagine a non Daemon Prince Primarch being a real threat to any individual Chaos God.

So the Gods don't really worry about making them too powerful.

Which begs an interesting question, if they were cast back to being mere mortals, what would they get up to? Try to reunite their scattered Legions and build a power base? Realise what they've done and try to atone (hah!)? Go off and build a new warband of followers to try and regain favouir and ascend once more?

Having the likes of Angron or Magnus back in the mortal realm would be very interesting.

That just leaves Alpharius and Lorgar now as the only daemon primarch with no activity post-heresy. Alpharius is a given as he's so mysterious, so really it's only Lorgar.

In M36:

"The infected Ork \\'arbands invading the Ecclesiarchy
world of Sanctia evince a terrible new barbarism. They fall
upon the planet's defenders and consume them bodily,
devouring the living and the dead alike, as if compelled
by a daemonic hunger . Bloating and swelling, the Orks
become obese monstrosities that can move only at a
snail's pace. Puzzled by this strange reprieve, the Adepta
Sororitas systematically purge the Orks with flame and
bolter. It is then that Mortarion and his Death Guard
make planetfall. The skeletally thin Daemon Primarch
looms over the bodies of the Orks as he stalks to the front
lines. At his passing, each Ork bursts apart in a shower of
foul fluids, and dozens of Nurglings spill out from tl1eir
remains to follow their master. Sanctia falls to the Green
Deatlh within twenty hours of Mortarion's arrivall, and the
plague spreads across the Ecclesiarchy-held system at an
unstoppable pace."

So because of FW is releasing the HH books I started doing a little research on it. I stumbled upon the Primarchs and what happened to them; but it said that some of the traitor legions primarchs became daemon princes.

Since it says they became daemon princes why do we not see them in the battlefield?

They spend time goofing off in the Warp. Magnus does nothing but read, mortarion slouches around on his throne, fulgrim spends all his time banging daemons and doing drugs, Angron sometimes goes out when he gets really mad, like when somebody talks to him.

It's worth mentioning that Alpharius is not a Daemon Primarch. He never went to the Eye of Terror and therefore never mutated. Lorgar is just brooding on his Daemon World.

I mean he corrupts a warband of Orks and uses them as Nurgling bombs, lol.

But yes, Chaos Orks.

And stop that.

My questions is what are Perturabo and Lorgar up to? They are also Daemon Primarchs but are not aligned to any of the gods, so I would imagine they are less tied into all the conflicts between the different chaos gods and thus more free to plan things based on their own personal goals.

Petrurabo is sitting on his fortress in Medrengard doing absolutely nothing besides brooding about the Imperial Fists. Lorgar has been in a state of meditation on Sicarius for 10,000 years (though in the Eye of Terror I guess its only been a few centuries).

One thing puzzles me though. In the Ultramarine book White Sky Black Sun (or is it the other way around) the whole story is set on Medrengard but not a sausage is heard from mighty Perturabo even though a war of immense proportion is kicking of big time on the surface. And to make matters worse, this great big dirty Daemon Prince gets proper rowdy by getting well slap happy with the Iron Warriors. Wouldn't you think that he'd have something to say about all that to-do happening right on his manor?

In the most recent grey knights book there was a description of the Daemon Prince Angron when he fought on Armageddon and it wasn't a telling of a tale but you saw it through the Grey Knight (and semi-mary sue's) eyes. Angron now is about the size of a Warhound Titan, has black leathery wings, his fists are apparently big enough to curl round a rhino and he has a saurian like head.

*Dead Sky, Black Sun
And stuff like like that happens all the time on Medrengard. A couple of Warsmiths duking it out for supremacy? Definitely not worth the might Perturabo's attention.
