The points cost are not matched between 30k and 40k.....we was looking at this the other day and you would need a multiplier to be applied so that the 30k models could be used.

I cant be bothered to get my book but my local GW store manager was doing some comparisons and they are not "points" similar...i.e. 10 marines all with heavy bolters is 235pts and obviously doesnt stack up with latest codex costs.

I would be cool with you using the model in a pickup game though......

Nope, not true. No unit in the heresy book can have 10 marines ALL with heavy bolters for 235. 10 Vets with 2 HB is 240, Now a 20 man Tactical squad is only 250 points - deliberately so. They stated very publicly that they wanted to encourage larger units to reduce the number of events, thereby keeping the game length under control. They cannot take any heavy weapons at all. A Tactical support squad can take Volkite, 2 shot S6 weapons, but they lack the AP of a HB , for 220 for 10

They do well against elite squads, as they have the bodies. However agile armies like Eldar rip them apart, as they dont have the heavy weapons to deal with them.

Balls, managed to miss that entry - somehow!

Indeed, however the point still stands - when they playtested small, elite armies struggled. Eldar ran rampant.
