As newish used I'm happy with the way things are

but if some folk want change why not split

NEWS (ie real concrete info) from

RUMOURS (random made up stuff, a bit of real data and hundreds of posts along the lines of 'I can't be bothered to read this thread, but do Crazy Space Knights have green icons now ?)

Personally I prefer dakka over other forums because of the N&R all together... On the other hand, kickstarters are actually flooding the section... maybe a Kickstarter section is not a bad idea...

9 Kickstarter threads out of 46 threads on the first page is hardly 'flooding'.

Not all retailer announcements are newsworthy.

The line between News and Rumour is often rather blurry.

Rumors become news, and news are often filled with rumors.

No, but we do need a separate forum for kick-starters.

It's basically become trying to find a needle (actual rumors) in a haystack (business begging for money to sell you stuff).

I'm not sure exactly what Ghaz is meaning here, but there are some instances where retailers (i.e. stores/businesses not the miniature companies) have used Dakka as their own personal announcement system.

I would love to see things like that enforced for "Find A Game" or get their own section as "Retailer Announcements".

So long as those announcements are miniatures or wargaming related, and it's not resulting in multiple threads about the same products, that's not really a problem.

I disagree.

If it's about a shop having a sale or announcing a playdate--it's more "retailer" related than miniatures/wargaming related.

If it's about a shop putting information out about new/upcoming releases--it's more miniatures/wargaming related than retailer related.
Look at this thread for an example of what I'm referring to. That clearly is not anything more than a plug for their webshop.
It's not News. It's not Rumors.
But at the same time, it's not "Finding a Game" so it can't go there. Swap Shop would be a better spot for it.

It was News to me, since I had never heard of them before.

If they're setting up recurring threads to continually plug their store with no actual newsworthy content, then that's verging into spam territory. But a one off plug for a new store, or a new service that might be of interest to the community... that's news.

Guys this is verging into pointless territory, it is simply impossible to please everyone.

The staff have noted the thread and respectfully feel the way things are works best most of the time in N and R. Nothing is set in stone forever, but for now, I think it is safe to say things will not be imminently adjusted.

Time to put the one to bed, but a genuine thank you to all who participated whatever your preference was, your interest and support of Dakka are appreciated.
