That does sound like the beginning of an epic joke. "17 Canadians, a Czech, a Fin, a Russian and 5 Americans from Michigan walk into a bar..."
and drink from Lord Stanley's cup?
Those naval victories were trumpeted at the time they happened and didn't have anything to do with Teddy. America at the turn of the 19th century was a poor backwater that attacked a globe spanning empire. Really, we're lucky we maintained out independence. If we came out on top it's because we were able to chart our own course post war, and it has nothing to do with the war or Canada.
They were trumpeted because of the perceived invincibility of the Royal Navy. They did not, however, affect the outcome of the war in any way, and arguably only really allowed the Yankies to put Toronto (York) to the Torch. Something that Canadians have been considering doing for tens if not hundreds of years.

A global spanning empire that had just finished a fight to the death with roughly half of Europe mostly by it's lonesome.
Secondly, even if the French Revolution hadn't happened I would doubt Britain's conviction was strong enough to attempt the invasion and occupation of the Colonies. If they couldn't convince them to fight amongst themselves and then support one side of it I really don't believe that they would have attempted anything at all. It's quite hard to occupy a nation as large as the Colonies when they really don't want you there. Especially as the commercial gain from such a place would be nil if not negative.
Certainly King George didn't like them and wanted them back, but cabinet would almost certainly not voted for such a thing. Not to mention that George went mad and the Prince of Wales was a gakker.

Except to Dallas hockey teams of course. Once again, Texas proves its utter dominance of all things ice related.
Would that be the the team consisting of 17 Canadians, a Czech, a Fin, a Russian and 5 Americans from Michigan?
And a team that they stole from Minnesota.

The fifth Canadian to post on thread links to Three Trolls in a Baggie. That is .... restrained.
Great song, a favourite. Love the bit about burning the White House, that never gets old.
