Actually you can hire who ever you please as a business owner, state or federal laws doesn't restrict that. The problem that you face is probably that you don't want to hire a drug addict because you would be fueling his addiction.

And i-502 also allows employers to not hire those that test positive for pot (that restriction is not going anywhere).

You can also terminate them for failing the piss test to.

Yeah that's what happened to me, age of 16 I took my first puff, 2 years later I was dead from a heroin overdose. Now here I Am 10 years later posting from the grave. /sarcasm

I live in Washington and hope it passes, although I am sure our absolutely terrible state govt will find a way to screw it up if it does, probably make the state budget worse somehow by using the revenue to put up more art next to the road with canyon size potholes.

Its a good restriction too, as it provides a nice way of terminating or refusing to hire people that clearly have substance issues.

In my experience its rare that you'll find an employer that will terminate or refuse to hire you just because you failed a drug test, so long as you show up on time and do good work.

How would a separate company know if you failed a piss test?

I meant with regard to outside the military.

I have plenty of friends who have failed piss tests and found employment somewhere else a couple weeks later.

I know big time lawyers, real estate agents, doctors, guys who own many businesses, everyone here basically smokes in Oregon, like fething everyone.

It is time for the plant to be set free, we have a strong hold of her, and at least I know what I'm doing with her.


FACT: Oregon faced an unbalanced budget, they had no way of fixing it, or did they? The price of OR medical cards was raised, and the budget was "fixed". This is an absurd thing to still have to fight for, it really shows that there is MAJOR funding and backing from "certain" interest groups looking to "burn the weed"

They'd call my previous company? References are a big deal and the companies I've worked for have always called my previous employers to find out why I don't work for them any more.

Living proof here. From what I see around me, it's worse than caffeine but not as bad as nicotine. And the thing about psychological addiction and physical addiction is bullgak, I used to get physical symptoms of addiction, especially before going to bed.

But it's definitely not the kind of addiction that will ruin anyone's life.

Does that mean we'll see Brownie shops in Washingon??

If Americans were back in a prohobition era buying your booze would be posession of a narcotic substance, it means crossing the line, so from then you might conceivably walk the road to heroin.
However if you buy a six pack it doesnt mean "hey lets go out and buy some pot now, then some meth next month".

Take away the line-crossing in pot smoking and you stop pot being the gateway drug.

Washington states move will be a big problem for those nice folks in the Sinaloa.

Yes and no, the altered state of concsiousness does play a part in it, but the same could be said for anytime you imbibe alcohol, or don't get enough sleep. The gateway part is that instead of going to the corner store where the person you're buying the product from only wants to sell you some doritos and maybe a can of pop, the drug dealer you bought that weed off of wants to sell you coke, meth, heroin, what have you. When you buy it that's his time to make his pitch for these other drugs, or try and push them on you. The friendly vietnamese fellow behind the counter at the Mac's Milk won't try to turn your cigarette/booze/pot purchase into a chance to upsell his heroin because there's a sale on it this month.
